Why is that every time a wannabbee says something that doesn't promote Cruz's agenda, we get sophomoric insults on the person's integrity etc, instead of a substantive discussion of the issue?

Here's my thought. A good debater will discuss the topic at hand if they know they can win the discussion. If they know they can't win, they pull cute tricks like trying to discuss and marginalize the person presenting the argument. It's childish and really annoying. And not helping your guy.

They do it because the Cruz campaign is doing. Trump is a NY Liberal. See what he said 17 years ago, blah, blah, blah.

You're talking about Trump right?

We get sophomoric insults because even FR is seriously tainted with the degraded state of popular culture. There are way too many people who think insult is an effective form of discrediting an argument.

For example, I’m a Cruzer, and you would not believe the number of times I have been accused of terrible personal misdeeds in lieu of a substantive response to the issues I’ve raised. And from people who on any given day can make arguments I’d consider, if the craziness wasn’t mixed in with it. I’ve never seen it worse on FR. I’ve even begun to question the value of the time I spend here. No, I’ll probably never “opus out,” as they say. Too addicted. :) But it does give one pause. What is this need to make everything personal? It is irrational to me.

Peace,

SR

What is there to discuss? Birthers believe one way and Non - Birthers believe the other. This topic has been discussed ad nauseum But okay, I have two children born in Berlin Germany while I was stationed there in the US Army. Are they considered natural born? This topic is just not about Ted Cruz it's about the hundred of thousands of children born abroad to US Military parents. First of all, think of the lawsuits that will occur if some moron court strips that from their children. Second, think of the politicians falling all over themselves to remedy that. I already have my speech written on what i'll say to the press when I file suit

Ted Cruz is and always has been a Republican and a conservative. On that basis, he seeks the presidency. The Donald is a late-breaking opportunist primarily on the matter of immigration. Single issue obsessives are still sticking with him in spite of a decidedly non-conservative track record but his political harem are not subject to turning because well, the wall, and that's all! And he talks dirty like a real New Yawker, speaking of childish and really annoying.

Just to review the bidding: As owner of the Miss Universe contest, the Donald insisted on allowing a "transgender" contestant. Trump opposed the Partial Birth Abortion ban but now calls himself a "pro-lifer." What has he DONE about it? Immensely wealthy as he is, has he given material support to the pro-life movement? Is it that hard for him to write a check? Mitch McConnell and Rahm Emmanuel have not noticed. He said in 2015 that his militant pro-abortion sister, a federal district court judge, would be a "phenomenal" appointment to SCOTUS. Shall we go on? Anyone unquestioning in support of Trump for the nomination AND calling him/herself a conservative must be at least confused if not deaf and blind though not dumb.

I agree with you. There are always a core of FReepers around their favorite candidate with blinders on. It’s frustrating.

Fact: Santorum is correct and the perfect interpretation of natural born citizen is not legally defined.

Knee jerk FReepers respond insulting Santorum. (This is not logical.)

Cruz was our darling for so long, it is hard to see his feet of clay, but we all have them. He was less than honest about his loans, he decided not to do anything about his citizenship issue until it may be too late (he really needed this Iowa primary but if people are concerned he’d be knocked out legally if he won...), and he can get quite mean —— to the people he professes to want to lead.

I’ve lost some respect for him. He is brilliant but maybe a bit spectrumy, hard to get along with. I don’t think Trump is perfect either and I do cringe at some of the stuff he says. But it’s not about what these guys feel and think. It’s about what they can do to free us again.
