9/11 WIDOWER INVITES CRUZ TO LEARN ABOUT 'NEW YORK VALUES'
ABC 7 CHICAGO ^ | 16 JANUARY 2016 | JENNIFER HANSLER

Posted on 01/15/2016 6:00:13 PM PST by Extremely Extreme Extremist

Sept. 11 widower James Smith knows something about New York values. Smith's wife, Moira, was killed in the 9/11 terrorist attacks. She was the only female law enforcement official killed that day.

When Smith, a retired NYPD officer himself, heard about Ted Cruz's "New York values" remark earlier this week, he took to Facebook to invite the Republican candidate to the Big Apple.

"I was disappointed by your disparaging remarks about New York values somehow being different from Iowa and New Hampshire values," Smith wrote. "I invite you to come to the National 9-11 Memorial and Museum and see for yourself, and perhaps learn something about, the values of New Yorkers."

Sorry for her 9/11 loss, but does she support abortion? Does she support pervert marriage? Does she support the 2nd Amendment?

Turning one American against another.... would that be kinda like telling Iowa people they are stupid for voting for Ben Carson.

When can we get rid of this fake idea that New York’s response to 9/11 was somehow fundamentally different from what the response would have been anywhere else in the USA?

Same here. He isn’t perfect, no candidate is But he is by far the most conservative candidate in the race.

In view of Trump’s own history regarding 9-11 ... which is now coming out ... he was foolish to drag this as an issue.

But I love the pictures. Very inspiring.

The Cult of Personality has taken over. I’ve been avoiding FR and will leave again because of the “crazy” that’s taken hold.

New York’s response to 9-11 was wonderful... no one is denying that.

However, Trump’s response to the aftermath ... not so wonderful.

The story is coming out big time. I’ve seen it from two different sources today.

At the same time, Cruz could have done a much better job of explaining what he meant. I do not share the values of previously mentioned communist inspired bastards. That goes for other places too. I was in California for 30 years. There are plenty of communist inspired bastards there too. If he had said it about California, I would have known immediately, he would not be referring to me.

He was limited by time and the moderators. He has explained it and will do so again.

Kind of hard to say.

She's been dead for over 14 years.

The person extending the invitation is her husband, James Smith.

And if Cruz is as smart as everyone says he is, it would be smart to take up the invitation and use it to clarify his remarks.

I hope Cruz can recover from this. Hope it’s not his Kerry in a bunny suit moment, or Howard Dean scream moment, or Dukakis on the tank.

Cruz may have to eat some major crow to get back on track.

Cruz did not just attack “New York City’s liberal values.” He said “New York values.” He wants people to think negatively of all New York values, but Trump and anyone else has the right to also bring up the positive aspects of New York values, including the vigor, courage, and energy of the city to rapidly recover from 9/11 and most specifically the bravery of the NYFD, NYPD, and the Port Authority officers to die trying to save others. (Not to mention the dedication they showed when digging through the smoldering rubble for survivors and remains.)

Too many people have been making the illegitimate argument that Trump shouldn’t make this defense focusing on the positive response and spirit of New Yorkers to 9/11; Cruz should be allowed to only focus on the negative aspects of New York, apparently with no defense permitted. He could have phrased what he said much differently if he didn’t want to attack all New Yorkers—people that he supposedly wants to represent as their president. I would prefer a president not to have open contempt for millions of his people (I didn’t like it when Obama did it either with his attack on “bitter clingers”).

Which major cities in America are conservative with those ‘values’ Mr. Cruz speaks of?

If you could just list 4 from the entire country that would be fine. Thanks.

I don’t think this has hurt Cruz at all.

Why would it?

Most people don’t think of New York City with love. Most people wonder how they could possibly elect such an idiot for a mayor.

He specifically said he wasn’t talking about the regular hard working people of New York but the political and financial elite of that fair city.

And Trump had no response. None.

Except to wrap himself in the flag of the 9-11 attack, which it now turns out he did nothing to support the aftermath of that devastating attack.

He certainly had the money to have made a difference but he chose to ignore it.

It's bad enough that Trump should have chosen his words more carefully, which not only allowed Cruz to exploit the gaffe, but enabled shameless opportunists as well, the MSM and the ignorant people who are allowed to vote, to come out of the woodwork! Some people are just waiting to do the "if the shoe fits" thing...

I am sure I am not the only one who understood what Cruz meant.
