This Is How Much the California Gas Leak Is Hurting the Planet
TIME.COM ^ | Jan. 14, 2016 | Justin Worland, Heather Jones

A gas leak deep under Los Angeles has been spewing 1.6 million lbs. of methane each day, with no immediate end in sight.

The months-long leak in Porter Ranch is already the worst in California's history, and environmental advocates fear it could have a long-term impact on the climate. While methane does not stay in the atmosphere for as long as carbon dioxide, it traps radiation more effectively, making it a significant contributor to global warming.

I sense a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of cows were farting their flatulence and could not be silenced.

The lib solution to this is obvious. Take a quarter of the California state government’s budget and parcel it out to 3rd world dictators. That will solve the crisis, and everything in the glow-bull warming arena should be back to equilibrium and goodness again, thus saving the planet.

Ah, it’s leaking out of a storage formation as I heard it.

This is largely hysteria. It is bad for the neighborhoods in the area, but natural gas leaks into the atmosphere constantly and is removed quickly. This won’t even cause an environmental blip.

There is no lid on anything. I live about 25 miles away and I hear about it almost daily on the morning news

1.6 million pounds a day sounds scary. It doesn't sound so scary when you realize that's 800 tons.

“The leak, in the casing of one of the facility’s wells hundreds of feet below ground, is releasing methane at a rate of 30,300 kilograms per hour, according to measurements by the California Air Resources Board collected most recently on Dec. 22.”

Where’s the EPA when it’s need to contain issues of this magnitude? Oh, I forgot they’re busy opening dams to contaminate water.

Want to watch a Leftists’ head explode?

Just postulate that if .01% of Muslim refugees, that might be jihadists, aren’t bad, how can .01% methane in the atmosphere be bad?

If this were happening in Texas, it would be headline news every day.

“SO.... I find it interesting that a leak this dangerous and of this magnitude is going on and the public largely seems to be unaware of it. “

If it was happening in Texas, this would be the headline un the liberal media.

I’m sure the earth doesn’t leak *any* methane naturally. It’s all sealed-up in Tupperware underneath the crust.

This is largely hysteria.

Probably. I just thought everyone should be aware of it. It was probably just me that wasn't aware of it.

Actually, the sky is falling, all the time.

Moisture condensates around dirt particles, and falls to the ground.

Dust particles from outer space and Ice crystals constantly pelt the Earth.

We are now starting to add orbital space debris to the mix.

Still, it’s better than living on Mars.

Does it involve fire ?

Not unaware. It is all over the the am radio and tv and the newspapers locally.
The average home price is over $700,000. I am not far from there but alas cannot afford a home that expensive. The homes are packed in tight with walls around most homes.

If I had the means I certainly would not buy there. Too expensive and too crowded.
