Cruz struck a different tone when Snowden first went public with classified details about NSA snooping in 2013.
"If it is the case that the federal government is seizing millions of personal records about law-abiding citizens, and if it is the case that there are minimal restrictions on accessing or reviewing those records, then I think Mr. Snowden has done a considerable public service by bringing it to light," he said at an event hosted by The Blaze in 2013.
In his statement to The New York Times, the Texas senator pointed to additional remarks he made in 2013, saying Snowden should be prosecuted if he broke the law.
"If Mr. Snowden has violated the laws of this country, there are consequences to violating laws that is something he has publicly stated he understands, and I think the law needs to be enforced," Cruz said at the time.
Cruz has been hit by GOP primary rival Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) for supporting the USA Freedom Act, which curtailed U.S. intelligence-gathering capabilities in light of the Snowden revelations.
Earlier this week, Rubio slammed Cruz for commending Snowden.
"I never believed Edward Snowden was a good public servant the way that Ted Cruz once said that he had done a public service for America," Rubio said Sunday on ABC's "This Week."
"We cannot afford to have a commander in chief who thinks people like Edward Snowden are doing a good public service," he added.

Sorry Marco, the reason against you are piling up.
You would have made a great subject of King George.
Probably would have soundly renounced Patrick Henry, John and Samuel Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Paul Revere, and all of the others. "We do not need a Gov'nor who would believes that Henry, Adams, Revere, etc. were doing a service to America."
The fact is, Snowden was right. The mammoth data gathering that is ongoing of American citizen personal data (effects) is gargantuan and unconstitutional. That young man held his oath more important that the apparatus arrayed against him...which now includes you, Marco.
You better think about it...IMHO, your sentiments probably means that you would have probably would stood by holding the coats of those who hung Nathaniel Hale.
There IS nothing conflicting in what Cruz said then and now.
Snowden is an American Hero.
“What Cruz does not get is that he will be double crosses by the Establishment. They are not loyal. They are using him.
My biggest concern right now is that the Establishment will push Cruz and get him in place to knock out Trump
Then the Establishment will turn on Cruz, and say he is not qualified. They may even judge shop to do it. That way they can slide Rubio or Bush in place after they disqualify Cruz.”
Been saying this all along...Ditto Ditto Ditto!
Rubio is an unmitigated hack, a wind up doll.
Cruzman Sachs flippin and floppin along....... !
You pretty much nailed it.
“Where was that stooped and mealy-colored old man I used to call poppa when the merry-go-round broke down?”
“How was Trump at Munich?”
“Hi-ho beriberi!”
and “Balls!” all rang out in rapid succession, and then there was Yossarian with the question that had no answer:
“Where are the Snowdens of yesteryear?”
—— Catch-22

Oh! - More Rubio dissimulation.
The snooping has been used to persecute good American citizens, and has failed to stop the real danger in most cases.
Screw the snoopers!

Just click your heels together....

>> “Cruz is now siding with the Establishment that want a police state and total control.” <<
.
That is the stupidest bullshit answer so far in the thread.

.
Cruz has not gotten off message, and he most likely will win Florida.
NH is a question mark to me presently, since we really have no reliable info there. It is an extremely liberal state, but has gone for freedom on a few occasions.
I found the biggest war mongers are those that never served. Ironic is it not?
The establishment has opposed Cruz in every possible way.
Cruz has already knocked out Trump; that is what all the citizenship foolishness is all about.
That is a good thing. WE cannot live under the SCOTUS that Trump would give us.
.
No flipping,no floppin, just good solid judgement.
.
Cruz should not change his position on this. We have to rein in abusive spying agencies. I loved him for voting to end NSA’s unnecessary spying on Americans and our Congress!
Snowden was a patriot and rights hero when he told American ciizens they were being spied on.
Snowden was a traitor when he told other countries we were spying on them.
