Tom DeLay: Cruz Has Problem on Citizenship Issue
NewsMax ^ | 01/13/2016 | NewsMax

Former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay told Newsmax TV on Wednesday that Ted Cruz might ultimately "end up in the courts" on the question of his citizenship and how it might affect his presidential campaign. "I've had this problem ever since Cruz announced," DeLay, the five-term Texas Republican who served from 2003 to 2005, told "The Steve Malzberg Show" in an interview.

"There is a difference between the definition of natural born and naturalization — and it has not been settled by any branch of government. "Cruz needs to address this in some way because it is a cloud right now in Iowa," DeLay said. [...]

DeLay, however, told Malzberg that the "most expedient" way for Cruz to settle any questions is to work through the courts. "You can't do anything through Congress," he said. "Congress isn't going to pass any bill to protect him — and I'm sure [President Barack] Obama wouldn’t sign anything. "He's going to the courts if he's the nominee. The Democrats will use every avenue available to them.

"They sued me over a valid issue," DeLay said, referring to a 2006 lawsuit brought by Democrats after he dropped his re-election bid. "They'll sue him. "He'll end up in the courts one way or another."

Why didn't these GOPers insist that Barack Hussein Obama "settle" this? I'm tired of the GOPe's bitching. Cruz is fine. He's a "natural born citizen."

GO TED! 2016!

Spoken by a guy who was sued by democrats because they could.

Cruz’s problem might not be at the national level. Since the election is state by state, let’s say a suit simply to remove his name from the ballot for failing to meet requirements is filed in Ohio, or in Florida, or in Virginia, or in North Carolina. Let’s say it gets settled right before the print deadline for the ballots.

He could run a write-in campaign in that state, but there’s no doubt it would hurt him if any or all of the purple states had suits in state court.

You'd think a guy who got run out of congress by dirty tricks would be smart enough to not want dirty tricks played on other people.

Well, Obama came up with a Hawaiian birth certificate.

Cruz has a Canadian birth certificate.

The mothers of both were born in the US.

Neither one is eligible.

Unless someone can produce naturalization paperwork that made him a citizen later in his life, he’s natural born. An American mother who made him an American from day 1. If he was solely a Canadian citizen and then filed to become naturalized American later, then we ‘might’ have an issue to discuss.

The law when Cruz was born was if one parent was a citizen with at least 5 of those years being over age 18 then he’s a natural born citizen. What Canada conferred on him is up to Canada. It doesn’t affect his status here unless he renounced his US citizenship which he didn’t do that I’m aware of.

Take it to the absurd - some country could grant citizenship to their country to every American. Would that make every American ineligible to be President? Of course not - because what those countries do does not affect how our laws treat our people.

If Congress has to pass legislation in order to make you a citizen at birth, then, by definition, you are naturalized, and are not a "natural born citizen." NBCs are what they are by nature, by birth. Cruz is not a natural born citizen.

Since they let the Manchurian Kenyan slip by, twice, they are up to their asses in alligators and don’t know which way to turn.

If any argument can be made against your citizenship, you have your answer.

Neither is Rubio.

He is flying under the radar hoping no one realizes he is a 14th Amendment anchor baby.

I met Tom Delay. He’s only about 5’2” tall. I could take ‘em down, LOL.
(I only stand about 5’5” myself).
Yeah, funny how he says this now. If he had reservations in 2012, why not say so?

He said he had issues when Cruz announced, and he probably didn’t say anything since Donald Trump didn’t shift the Overton Window so we can talk about natural born citizen requirements again.

For the senate, all you need to be is a citizen.

Successfully removed against all common sense. Libs don't care about common sense, particularly while they're winning.
