As Ted Cruz tells it, the story of how he financed his upstart campaign for the United States Senate four years ago is an endearing example of loyalty and shared sacrifice between a married couple.
"Sweetheart, Iâd like us to liquidate our entire net worth, liquid net worth, and put it into the campaign," he says he told his wife, Heidi, who readily agreed.
But the coupleâs decision to pump more than $1 million into Mr. Cruzâs successful Tea Party-darling Senate bid in Texas was made easier by a large loan from Goldman Sachs, where Mrs. Cruz works. That loan was not disclosed in campaign finance reports.

Strange that he’s always told the story (and I’ve heard it, live, several times) that he and his wife funded his Senate run with their life savings.
So the NY Times, the one reporting this nonsense, is not part of the Washington Cartel?
Add to that you and the NY Times are on the same side on this. Are you part of the Washington Cartel?
Seems like his memory isn’t very good, doesn’t it? And here he was alleged to have this exceptional memory. Audiographic or something like that.
Our friend, Ted, has a loooot of Mickey Mouse excuses. AND he seems to get himself in a lot of situations that need an ‘’explanation’’. (How stupid are we, huh?)
Maybe those Sabo renditions- the prison looking one with the gang-style tattoos & tearing around in a Mustang convertible aren’t too far off the mark.
Cruz belongs to the most powerful cult of all. Goldman Sachs.
Yeah, I know, that’s another meme the Trumpsters have fabricated out of thin air-—Cruz is Levin’s candidate. Yet he hasn’t endorsed anyone.
You’re joining in with leftists to prop up your Democrat candidate.
Well, yeah, especially since they liquidated their assets.
The anti-Cruz people are rabid, indeed.
You mean the NY Times article?
As if we can trust that they've given us an objective report, in full context?
Yeah, I should have held fire before I read another BETTER source on this.
I’ll be honest, his NEW YORK VALUES comment really got under my skin.
Uh oh what? When did FR become occupy wall street?
Trump supporters such as you irritate me as much as their non-conservative candidate. They are just as loud, obnoxious, boorish and ignorant.
He got a loan from a bank. Hate to brake it too you but that is not news.
I'm a New Yorker. NY votes rat. People who vote rat have terrible values.
Those of us here who don't like those values, criticize those values, the people who vote for those values and the state in general.
A year from now, I will be out of here.
"These transactions have been reported in one way or another on his many public financial disclosures and the Senate campaign's F.E.C. filings," she said.So they missed one report.
And there is no evidence of special treatment.
Thank you Karl!
Cruz got a loan from a bank. Virtually everyone does that at some point in there life. Especially if they are trying to finance something big. Please note that a loan is not a gift and must be paid back with interest. I am sure that the sainted Donald Trump knows all about loans and has probably taken out hundreds from big banks for his various projects.
Hmmm Maybe when the wealth envy started. ‘I’ll never have a plane with my name on it.’’
Bit of a stretch.

Financing a campaign with a loan which is secured with personal assets is using your life savings to finance your campaign. A loan like this is simply a way of monetizing your assets. If things don’t go well and you are not able to repay the loan then you will lose those assets.
