- Second: Kaiserreich (German Empire), until end of WWI
- Third: self-identified

Holy Roman Empire was not Holy, Nor was it Roman and not really an Empire—more Austrian than German—I didn’t count it, but others did, as a Reich. It limped along til 1806 when it was at long last put out of its misery. Real Germany didn’t start til the 1870s Odd that the USA is older than a united Germany.

Specifically, their membership in NATO is a disaster waiting to happen. Yes, it is a likely trigger for WW3.
