How much direct aid does the U.S. give to Mexico? The president has the ability to decide how much money they get.
Cut it off and use it to build the wall.

Yes it is a LIE. In case you forgot, Congress holds the purse strings, not the President, so Trump would have little to no authority to force Mexico to do anything. He would be dependent on Congress. So although Trump may “intend” to do it, he will not have that authority.
Also, for those of you that do not understand finances. If the U.S. withholds aid money for Mexico and uses that money instead to build a wall then the U.S. is still using its own money to build the wall. Likewise, if we give that aid money to Mexico and they use it to build the wall then the U.S. is still paying for the wall; not Mexico.
The only way to make Mexico pay for the wall would be for the U.S. to withhold aid AND Mexico pay for the wall. Anything else is nothing more than slide of hand and creative accounting.
Trump is a business man and should know this so to claim that we’ll make Mexico build the wall by spending our own money on the wall instead of giving Mexico aid is deceptive and misleading. Again, Trump’s claims may make a good sound bite, but they are nothing but LIES!
