I really liked the video of his Glass Spiders tour, with Peter Frampton on lead guitar. It was a "best of" collection.

I wasn't a big fan of Mr. Bowie until I heard Young Americans. That album was fantastic.

O/T, but I'm at that age where my favorite entertainers are aged, so I'm trying to enjoy them while they're still alive.

We saw Frankie Valli on New Year's Eve, he's still going strong at 81. My wife loves him, and he put on a great show, even if he was a bit under the weather.

While walking back to our hotel room to change, I saw about half of his band throwing back a few drinks in the bar. I went over and talked to them, and they were as congenial as could be. My son, soon to be 14, plays trumpet so I introduced him to the trumpet player.

I decided to get a beer, and I toasted them with a "Prosit Neujahr". Next thing I know, one of the other musicians starts speaking to me in German (he lived in Germany nearly two decades). That started a conversation that lasted an hour and a half. What a way to ring in the New Year!

>> Not a hoax.

A few years back, Maurice White had to explain on his website that he wasn’t yet dead given some precarious rumors.

As I understand it ... he marketed himself very well for a few youthful years and parlayed his earnings into a self sufficient wealth

A great talent....will live on in music and iconic image for all times.

Not to mention Bowie Bonds

An asset-backed security;which uses the current and future revenue from albums recorded by musician David Bowie as collateral. The 25 albums a Bowie bond uses as their underlying assets were recorded prior to 1990.

David Bowie used the proceeds from the bond sale to purchase old recordings of his music. In creating the bonds, he ultimately forfeited royalties for the life of the bond (10 years).

Bowie bonds, issued in 1997, had an interest rate of 7.9% and a life of 10 years. The Bowie bonds were purchased by Prudential Insurance for $55 million. Bowie bonds represented one of the first instances of a bond that used intellectual property as the underlying collateral.

The value of the bonds began to decline as online music and file sharing grew in popularity, decreasing album sales. This resulted in a downgrade by Moody's in 2004.

However, the advent of legal online music retailers renewed interest in these securities in the latter part of the decade.

UHHM, Lemmy died BEFORE Bowie. Around Christmastime IIRC.

Sorry, Lemmy's dead

And you have NO IDEA how sad that makes me!

Don’t care, I always liked it and looked like they had fun doing it.

Sorry, let me clarify: age-wise. But the Big C apparently got them both in the end, it seems.

It was very cool. He dropped a few names of other musicians he's worked with, and my jaw was dropping. I didn't want to beat him down, but there were several from groups that I have on my Ipod, such as Bill Bruford from Yes.

Within 15 hours, I was "back to Earth", as I was pressed into service to babysit my 5 YO grandson. We had a grand time, assembling his Hot Wheels garage that he got for Christmas.

It's all good.

To say our conversation was wide ranging was an understatement. We must have covered 15 topics, to include Ayn Rand and Atlas Shrugged. My son was very nervous, afraid that I was going to embarrass him...lol.

That would be extreme.

He’s doing his show tonight. A Bowie tribute.

I am stunned seeing as how his new album came out, but then again, it seemed to come out of the blue, as if there was a rush to get it out when he was still alive. But I had no idea he was ill.

The year was 1977, just a month before Bing died.

David Bowie was supposed to sing just the Little Drummer Boy with Bing, but was going to back out as it wasn’t his style. So the writers got working and added the “peace on Earth” stuff in.

in the early 70’s i was in Kingsborough CC. I wrestled and had to lose weight. Pretty miserable being 18-20 and not eating most days. I used to sit in the cafeteria sipping coffee during off periods. In That hour i could always count on hearing at least 2 Bowie tunes to help get me through. Changes or Suffragette city were standard play. For whatever reason even to this day i can recall his songs from those lonely hours and none other.
Thank you Mr Bowie. You probably only guessed at how profound an impact you had.
