If I thought I could get away with no one ever finding out that I had changed my name ..which I think in this day and age is impossible...I would change my name to collect, change my appearance..and troll the heck out of everyone involved...and wear a disguise if they would let me.

That’s a good reminder and yet one more reason to not go too crazy with ticket buying. Your 1 in 300,000,000 chance might be 0 in 300,000,000.

Six states allow winners to remain anonymous: Delaware, Maryland, South Carolina, Kansas, North Dakota and Ohio.

Don’t know if that means you have to actually be from that state to just report it there and be anonymous?

Yup, got my tickets.

My Gawd. What a tax on imbeciles. But then it’s money I don’t and won’t pay for monolithic government. In the 30’s the “bunco” squads arrested and sent to prison “the numbers runners” . Today is is our pathetic bureaucratic state governments. It is sad to watch the mindless waste of the imbeciles welfare money. What a belly laugh, knee slapping joke. Grow UP!

He: “Honey pack you bags, I won the lotto!”
She: “Should I pack for the beach, for the city, or for the mountains?”
He: “I don’t care where you go, just get the hell out.”

I’d do that. You don’t need that house any longer.

Here is my advice. Should a Freeper win the lottery, they should definitely as you say, sleep on it, and not tell anybody.

On Monday, they should find a good lawyer if they don't already have one that they trust. Follow that lawyer's advice and set up the necessary trusts that make it possible to claim the prize without revealing your identity. By this time, I hope you at least informed your spouse, but swear her/him to secrecy.

Do NOT quit your job! At least not right away. But don't take any crap from your boss either.

Take all your money in a lump sum. Don't elect to get paid a fixed amount over a number of years. Who knows what will happen if the government runs low on money. Look what's happening in Illinois for example.

Now that you have your money, DO pay down all your debt. Your credit cards, your mortgage, your loans, etc. Make yourself debt free. DO NOT go out and buy flashy cars and other luxury items. It might help to watch this scene from Goodfellas a couple times.

Take all the rest of the money and invest it. Diversify. Put some in interest bearing accounts. Some in stocks. Some in real estate. Put some of it offshore. Then sit back and live your normal life for a year. Continue working your job. Because you are debt free, what you make is yours to spend. You can go out to dinner more, take some nice vacations, maybe get a new car but not too flashy, ok? Maybe a Nissan Pathfinder or a Ford F150. Definitely not a Cadillac or a Jaguar.

After a year, see how much you made in interest on your principal. That will be your new income. Now you can quit your job, move out of state, start living the high life. Live off the interest, keep the principal and add to that principal as much as you can. You are now set for life and you are not going to end up like those other lottery douchebags who find themselves dead broke because they acted like idiots.

No winner would be huge on the excitement meter. I’ll bet sales volume is way up when this fever gets rolling. Wednesday was less than 400 Million and it’s over 900 in three days.

Oh yeah, I forgot the most important thing. If a Freeper wins this Powerball, they must pay all operating expenses for Free Republic so that we no longer have to have Freepathons.

Hi Vermont Lt - your local lawyer is not the person to deal with.

if you go to your local lawyer, he will refer you to someone who specializes in big lottery winnings. He (or she) will then get a BIG referral for doing nothing.

The expert will then run up the bills so he can pay off those referral fees. You are better off going directly to the expert.

You’re in MA, right? If you win - let me know - I’ll connect you with the big money lottery winner’s lawyer.

He handled the woman’s winnings who bought a ticket in Watertown, or was it Waltham. She had a standing order with the same number for years. The owner of the store, a muzzie, claimed she had called and cancelled the order.

He lost in court. She won.

My lottery organization allows you to wear a disguise when receiving that big cheque, but they insist on confirming your identity first.
