The Bernie Sanders pledge: $2 ATM fees
Las Vegas Now ^ | 1/05/16 | Heather Long

**SNIP**

Sanders has made Wall Street a top issue, and says bankers are "destroying the very fabric of our nation." It's helping him remain competitive in key states like Iowa and, especially New Hampshire.

A decade ago, about half of America trusted banks. Now that trust has fallen to a historic low of just 20%, according to Gallup.

"Greed, fraud, dishonesty and arrogance. These are some of the words that best describe the reality of Wall Street today," Sanders said.

Bernie wants to break up the banks.

Same here.

We take out cash once a month for small things, use credit card for all others. Pay off credit card monthly.

Have not paid interest or fee in decades.

It is possible.

How often do real, working Americans use ATMs... Twice a year
I think it's a generational thing. I always carry enough to cover any likely need (including emergencies). I never let my cash funds drop low enough that I have to use random ATMs; I go to my bank's ATMs every week or two to "reload".

Most of the "youngsters" I know carry no cash, and expect to use their debit card (never a credit card, even though credit cards are almost always better) for every transaction, no matter how small. Any time they find themselves needing actual cash, they rush to the nearest ATM, and take out just enough cash to meed their immediate needs. They pay multiple fees. I've seen them do this two or even more times in a single outing, when they underestimate how much cash they'll need.

I sometimes ask them what they would do if the ATM network stopped working, and they look at me as though I was crazy.

Fixed that for ya, Bernie!

Hello, if you use your banks ATM, there is no fee.

******************************************************

I don’t pay an ATM fee any where in the world if the machine has a Cirrus logo and most of them do.

What have the big banks done to reverse the situation? And why have executives of failed banks gotten such huge salaries and bonuses? And why is it Sounds of Silence about stopping the damage the Federal Reserve has done?

FWIW, I've probably done more research acout these topics than most folks.

I haven’t had ATM fees in close to a decade. Further proof that progressive policies send us backwards.

Stupid politicians, sticking their noses in where they have no business.

ATM? My bank's 2 blocks south, and I get free cash-back from Aldi and Walmart. No fees anywhere. There's a raghead carryout across the street and their ATM costs $2.50 a pop, but I never use it. I do stop and read the fee notice, then wave my hand at it dismissively, I know the owner's watching. I'm hoping he says something. "Not at your prices!" will be my witty rejoinder... Heh.

Even better: Discover Bank's Cashback Checking Account. They give you a dime every time you pay a bill on line, use your debit card or even write a check. Plus they provide quaint old paper checks free of charge.

If you like what you see, freepmail me and I might even be able to get a referral code for a $50 bonus, my share to be donated to the Freepathon.

People can't accumulate savings because interest rates on savings are near-0%.

My small local bank would love to give me more than zero, but their loan rates are suppressed by Fed meddling and a lot of that return is vacuumed up by the FDIC. The real problem lies with the politicians (both parties) that are addicted to the money that the Fed prints for them to hand out.

I give up; you win.
Damage Fed has done? Yeah, no disagreement - and what would happen if they did pipe up? Ryan pipe up? Nope. Any GOPe pipe up? Any bankers pipe up? None. Why? Blackmail?

We’re on the same side, it is just that you named the bankers as the culprit; I named the government (Fed included) and the bankers. One does not exist guilty in a vacuum.

On an aside, please research how banks make a profit. I do not think you understand the “spread”; that is the traditional method of profit - that is gone and they had to institute a secondary method, services and fees.

If you are advocating banks don’t make profit any longer, then you have credit unions, which I’d expect you to belong to to avoid the hypocrite label.

Remember when banks go out of business, a lot of people are thus unemployed.

it is comical, (and reprehensible), that this guy is running around, spewing his bilge about how the “system is broken”, blah blah, as if he had nothing to do with it.

career leftist “politician”....he IS the problem.

and so...he is gonna swoop in and “fix it”.

his minions are idiots. lets try some big picture, critical thinking skills shall we?

(...morons...)

Laugh if you must, but I personally know a lot of low-infos who would stampede to the polls for this.

Maybe it has something to do with our willingness to use the banks. If they were that bad, we wouldn’t use them.
Banks don’t set interest rates. The feds do that.
Annuities are garbage.

People who know nothing about banking should not lecture us about it.

I'm in the ATM business, modern ATM's do a lot more than shoot out a sawbuck. ATM's are despised by bankers, but their customers (real working Americans) demand them.

Annuities are garbage

So many seniors have resorted to them and reverse mortgages to make ends meet. It'll be another blow to the middle class when they die near-penniless and so many in the next generation don't inherit anything. So many in the next generation (age 50 or so and younger) haven't ever had the ability or incentive to save or get out of debt. And they're not going to have pensions.

That's an absolute statement, for sure. There are exceptions. It's actually impressive that quite a few younger couples are buying these older, less expensive houses rather than buy into mortgages they can't afford and long commutes.

Wow! That’s the greatest news to come from a Democrat Candidate’s since Hillary promises to elevate female school teacher’s salaries to that of a mechanical engineer.

Imagine. It only will cost $2 to withdraw your money from your bank if you use a machine. If you wait you can withdraw it from a live teller for free.

It’s ideas like this that makes me want to throw caution to the wind and vote a straight Democrat ticket this year.

Who cares about eliminating the DOE, EPA, IRS and a host of other useless government departments? Who cares that we send millions to South Africa in order to solve that communist nation’s poaching dilemma?

The only mystery is why Bernie Sanders can own this issue. You'd think Rand Paul would embraced it. It was his dad's strongest issue.

In addition to all his other moronic issues, Ron Paul was against ATM fees? LOL!
