Yes, the chimney on the building in the picture above is clearly non-functional.
It's our tax dollars. OF COURSE it works.
My best friend in high school assisted with the building of a new Forest Service headquarters, similar to this one, in a similar climate. They didn't spare any expense.
The next year, he used the experience to build his own log place. I peeled red pine for an entire month, so I kind of remember. :)
Yes, but . . .
There's probably a full pig
If so, satellite shows it's not aboveground.
It gets cold, and it snows. And the snow sticks, and piles up.
That's what it does. These boys didn't just fall off the turnip truck.
Thanks for the info.
It looks very nice I agree, but our tax dollars are more often spent on aesthetics than functionality.
It does look old enough to be real, though.
In areas like this, you use propane for the quick heat, and sometimes for lights.
Again, why are you having The Vapors over this?
I couldn't care less. They'll do jest fine.
And yet, they started soliciting food and warm clothing after less than 48 hours.
The Sky is Falling.
They're about 200 miles from the GT North, correct.
and if they scouted it
Great question.
According to one of their two spokesmen, Ammon Bundy, they'd been planning this carefully for a long time.
According to their other spokesman, LaVoy Finicum, it was a spur of the moment decision made right before the protest.
And "Terrorism", too.
You trying to build a case for someone?
"OMIGOD! Did you SEE what he wrote??!!!??"
He wrote that "They'll do jest fine."!!!
Get me the smelling salts, before I call the FBI hotline!
Either they are savvy, well-prepared guys who are more than capable of sticking this out, or they are guys who didn't bring enough socks or food to last three days on their own.
They can't be both.
Getting The Vapors about ongoing news is a waste of time.
We'll see what's what in the fullness of time.
Make your observation, then a "Told Ya So!" if you were right a couple of weeks from now.
I don't understand what your "cage match" mentality is all about.
I think they'll do just fine. If I'm wrong, rub it in it two weeks.
Wait on it. Don't shoot from the lip. I had to learn it here the hard way, with the Ron Brown dustup back in 97-98.
"...Either they are savvy, well-prepared guys who are more than capable of sticking this out, or they are guys who didn't bring enough socks or food to last three days on their own. They can't be both..."
But I think the answer is this:
Some of these guys are probably pretty decent outdoorsmen, and if they had actually planned carefully to stock up on clothing, fuel, and rations they could have lasted for months.
They didn't put together supplies, because they believed that their maneuver would resonate deeply, both at the local and national level.
They thought that the local community would keep them well-supplied with food, fuel and gear at first - and that people would then start coming from all over the US to join them and make common cause with them.
There would be no need to bring provisions, because there would be more donations than they would know what to do with.
They overestimated their popularity.
They are young.
Youth doesn't always think ahead, & usually has greater hope than a crusty old person like myself.
They may have looked forward to a Bundy Miracle II.
Wonder if farce enlawment is threatening people who want to help, or are they doing a hands-off thing?
Wonder if I'd be bold enough to bring those young fellas something?
Lots of locals, going by snippets of interviews in various sources, seem to be of the opinion that the Hammonds maybe played a little fast and loose but got treated far too harshly by the feds, and that the Refugees aren't really there for the Hammonds but for their own purposes.
