To be honest I’m not paying that much attention to what you write other than for it’s amusement since you provide nothing more than opinion. I might add that opinion is on a subject it’s obvious you have no understanding of. Here’s the plain and simple truth not all land can provide enough to maintain a serious cattle operation. When that happens you simply reduce the amount of cattle that it can provide for. Many times the land can not provide enough to even pay for itself so you have 2 choices, look for secondary income or get out of the cattle business. As far as the BLM goes I have zero connection, we have zero BLM land in our area and very little in the state. I’m just an old West Texas rancher, Vietnam Veteran, ex LEO, who managed to get himself into the oil and gas business along the way. Please allow me to repeat this one more time. Never get into a lease or contract with the Federal Government, they are not to be trusted.

Oh, so you know little or nothing about grazing permits???? Interesting. In your admitted ignorance, why don’t you ‘splain to me what it is I don’t know about what I’m saying??

You are a bit of an arrogant jerk....you made your money in oil - but you look down your nose at the guys who depend on these permits to make their ranches viable and tell them, “if you don’t like the terms, don’t take the lease”. And you say this while admitting that you know the feds are not to be trusted....sounds to me like you are the kind of neighbor that hopes for the other guy’s hardship, so you can buy up his land with your oil money. I’ve known several of your kind...

The whole point I have been making is that the feds are lying bastards (another way of saying they are not to be trusted). They give conflicting directives, change the deal, and generally make it difficult for the grazer. You prance in, defending the lying bastards, while telling me I don’t know what I’m talking about and the feds are not to be trusted. BRILLIANT!! In a formal debate, you would have just conceded my point, while proving I do indeed know EXACTLY what I’m talking about.

Don’t you think that lying bastard thing is at the heart of this whole thing? If the feds would be upfront and honest in dealing with the permit holders, and not treat them as adversaries, these situations wouldn’t happen.

“As far as the BLM goes I have zero connection, we have zero BLM land in our area and very little in the state.”

This is how it should work, what you may not understand is the BLM thinks it owns the 12 Western States, by virtue of the large percentage of land retained in Federal hands at statehood. In some cases, and perhaps all, there is insufficient land in private hands to support a livestock operation when it takes large acreages to support one cow/calf much less a herd. Grazing permits on Federally held lands are in many cases an absolute necessity. The Bundy ranch is a prime example and if my history is correct they are the last ranch standing in their part of Clark County, all others having lost to Federal encroachment.
