Donald Trump holds a dominant position in national polls in no small part because he is extremely strong among people on the periphery of the Republican coalition.
He is strongest among Republicans who are less affluent, less educated and less likely to turn out to vote. His very best voters are self-identified Republicans who nonetheless are registered as Democrats. It's a coalition that's concentrated in the South, Appalachia and the industrial North, according to data provided to The Upshot by Civis Analytics, a Democratic data firm.
Mr. Trump's huge advantage among these groups poses a challenge for his campaign, because it may not have the turnout operation necessary to mobilize irregular voters.
Mr. Trump appears to hold his greatest strength among people like these - registered Democrats who identify as Republican leaners - with 43 percent of their support, according to the Civis data. Similarly, many of Mr. Trumpâs best states are those with a long tradition of Democrats who vote Republican in presidential elections, like West Virginia.
Mr. Trump's strength among traditionally Democratic voters could pose some problems for his campaign. Many states bar voters registered with the other party from participating in partisan primaries. Other states go further, not allowing unaffiliated voters to vote in a primary; in the G.O.P. race, for example, that would mean restricting the electorate to those registered as Republicans - one of Mr. Trumpâs weakest groups. This group of states includes many favorable to Mr. Trump, like Florida, Pennsylvania and New York.

New York Times, silly propaganda alert.

None the less, it shows that Trump can get the independents and traditional Democrats get elected. I can’t see those people going for Cruz or Rubio.
according to data (sic) provided to The Upshot by Civis Analytics, a Democratic data firm. And they would never, ever lie.
If the Trump campaign reaches out to registered democrats to write him in in the democrat primaries, can he get more votes than Martin O’Malley?
This survey spans since August. A lot of the state-level data looks odd against ongoing poll results and ignorning the written article (I have not read it word-for-word), the immediate thing that stands out is the even level of support across age groups and gender, plus the significant Hispanic support. Odd no report of Black support.
You know the reporter just doesn’t want to admit it, but it’s the reemergence of the Reagan Democrats. A hopeful sign that a few light bulbs are turning on in that party.
They just can’t bring themselves to make that bridge crossing in regards to just how good Trump is doing with blacks. They will not let anything get into the way of the plantation walls being torn down as well. But their Tower of Babel is built with bricks, not rocks. Just hanging in there to see it for one more year is going to be all we can take.
Another interesting point in the stats is the very broad nationwide support Trump gets. In looking closer at the US map, I did not find any districts with less than about 25% support. Some are very high, including NY. Regardless of the commentary in the article, these stats should scare the Democrats and put the GOPe on notice as well, 2016 is Trump.

Not this again?
Obama had 93% of the black vote. Hillary will need to do that too. Think she can do it?
It really gets old being told that because I am from the South and I vote Conservative that I’m an uneducated low-income inbred.
Agree. College educated, professional letters after my name, 40 hours of additional education every year, and I’m with Trump.
Rev. James David Manning sez that blacks are turning to Trump in droves.
It gets old when people make conclusions about individuals based only on analyses of group data.
Im trying to understand why race would be a factor for trump supporters? Heck - blacks are being screwed over by the GOPe and Democrats just like the rest of the country. These pundits trying to figure out why we’re unhappy - really!? They areas disconnected from the real world that all of the data on the planet won’t enlighten them.
Even race pimps know that once mexicans take over, the race card they keep in their pocket expires and they have no more game.
Yep, have been following that for months now. What got my attention was the first Diamond and Silk video. Then in casual conversation, there is far more Trump support outside of the typical registered voters of past models. In essence, some of the people who we labeled as LIV’s basically dropped out of the process mainly because of the corruption and lies. No fat lady singing yet, but the orchestra is now tuning their instruments.
