My problem with Trump is I just don’t believe him when he is saying these things now. You can just go back into his recent past and find him saying the opposite. Since he hasn’t had to make a hard vote anywhere for anything we can only go by what he has said in the past. And that doesn’t look good.

Bummer to be you and be so torn....

here's a thought for those who don't like/trust Trump:

Now for a short public service announcement to all on FR:
We need to ensure we don't get another Obama-like America Hater as the next President.
The best way to ensure that is to actively support a candidate as the next President.
I prefer Cruz and my money goes to his campaign, hence the Cruz link. If you like someone else, donate to him/her (find your own link to do it) and if you use FR and don't donate, then please don't complain about the welfare leeches or those who have Obama Phones because, functionally, you are no different than any other who enjoys the fruits of others' work for your own benefit.

PS - If you are one of those who cannot afford even a small donation to FR or a candidate, God Bless and happy FReeping!.....

GO CRUZ!! Keep it up Trump!!

Donate to FR

Donate to Cruz

Donate to FR

And yet the "hard votes" by Cruz have been FOR the Corker/Iran deal, for TPP. I guess you could say he voted against a couple of budgets, but that's a lot easier to do when you know you're a minority of one of two and it will pass anyway. So it is easier to make a "stand" knowing there are no real consequences.

I don't see it. The GOP has had control for five years and done squat. I am ready to try an alternative.

My problem is I dont believe you. Donald Trump I believe, especially whenit comes to making America great again.

He is a winner, not a loser.

He said the things he is saying now in his book “Time to Get Tough-Making America #1 Again” published in 2011 and some of the things he said on his book, “The America We Deserve” published in 2000.

The chapter titles in his 2011 book are:

1. GET TOUGH
2. TAKE THE OIL
3. TAX CHINA TO SAVE AMERICAN JOBS
4. IT’S YOUR MONEY-YOU SHOULD KEEP MORE OF IT
5. A GOVERNMENT WE CAN AFFORD
6. STRENGTHEN AMERICAN MUSCLE
7. A SAFETY NET, NOT A HAMMOCK
8. REPEAL OBAMACARE
9. IT’S CALLED ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION FOR A REASON
10. THE AMERICA OUR CHILDREN DESERVE

Are you calling prior to 2000 the recent past?

“My problem with Trump is I just don’t believe him when he is saying these things now.”

Fair comment. I think that most of Trump’s supporters here feel the same - and even some of his more recent stuff (such as recently defending imminent domain, as liberals call it) is worrisome.

Even so, if Trump is lying about his key positions now, then why? It can’t be for money - if he just sells 2 apartments (not even buildings) in NYC, he’s set for retirement. Sell 1 building, and all of his grandchildren and probably great grandchildren will have enough money to get a Harvard education without any grants or loans.

Is it for publicity - to get more people to watch his TV shows? If he turns around and double-crosses his supporters, he will be reviled. No upside there.

Is he secretly trying to help Hillary? Considering the way he’s been smacking her, MUCH MORE than any other Republican (and face it, EVERY other Republican is frightened to death of her)...he’s not helping her very much. If he really wanted to help Hillary, he’d be running Third Party...but he’s not.

So, by default, as far as us supporters can see, he is on the level with us - and DEFINITELY no less trustworthy than McCain was (who said in 2008 that we need to secure the border before talking Amnesty...then lost that election and immediately teamed with Rubio on his Amnesty bill that nearly got through Congress). And does ANYONE think that Bush or Rubio can be trusted, AT ALL, on Border Security?

That then leaves Cruz - and a lot of us suspect that Cruz will be raked over the coals by the Republican Party, if Trump does get out of the way. The ENTIRE PROCESS for the Primaries was designed to PREVENT Cruz from getting the nomination...and given the Party’s record in getting the deadbeats that they want (Bush-41, Dole, McCain, Romney, and Bush-43, to some extent)...the odds of Cruz pulling it out would have been (and still would be) quite long.

...and then the general election. Like it or not, Cruz doesn’t offer much to the country once you leave the conservative arena...in fact, he seems more like a bible thumper to most people outside of our sphere, going to prayer breakfast after prayer breakfast, for example. Most likely he’ll turn off people that don’t want to be preached at and he’ll struggle on immigration, although at least he has some credibility on it.

Bottom line - it would be GREAT if there were a solid conservative with Trump’s key policy positions, money, and personality, but there is not. We can either roll the dice on (1) someone that we know is lying to us (Bush/Rubio), on (2) someone that will have a tough time winning in November, to say the least (Cruz), or on (3) someone that will be a dream-come-true president if he is being honest with us, now. I’ll take my chances on #3.
