they are so !@$@#$ing spiteful and greedy and want their money and their whores and their power so bad, they’d bring down the country to get a few more hedonistic years for themselves.

Regrettably, I believe it goes a little further than "their money, their whores and their power".
It's a class thing, as well. They don't want to "share power" with people like us -- you and me, the conservative base. Because we're not like them.
In their mind, we're not educated, we're not sophisticated, we're "hicks". Crude rednecks. "Bitter clingers" in Obama's words -- which they surely agreed with.
See, it's not really Democrat vs Republican anymore. Nor is it conservative vs liberal. At bottom, it's Washington vs The Rest Of Us. And, yes, they are 'out of touch"...because they are "so far above" the rest of us.
