If you’re a human American over the age of 2, I’m betting I know what you’re doing this weekend: You’re going to see “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”
The seventh film in the Star Wars series, it had a banner opening night, raking in as much as $60 million. Rentrak projects it will end up earning more than $3 billion.
That’s right — I’m not seeing “Star Wars.” So, fans, you don’t have to worry — there won’t be any spoilers in this column. I’ve gone 36 years without seeing more than five collective minutes of the movies and I don’t plan to start now.

I’ve got nothing against “Star Wars” or its fans. Part of me really wants to experience their world. But turning mine into one giant “Star Wars” strip mall is only ensuring I never will.

Dittoes. I was never into Star Wars when it came out. Still don't care. Having said that - Merry Christmas to all you Star Wars fans and enjoy the movie.

If you ask me, it’s more of a kids’ movie, not some new religious fad that fans try to make it.
I liked the first installment in 1977 and saw it numerous times. After that - meh.
With everything going on she feels the need to write about this. How about simply allowing people to be excited? If you have to put up with people talking about a movie for a few weeks that you have no desire to see, then consider yourself lucky that life is good and you don’t have real problems.
SE Cupp is a member of the GOPe- what else is she going to write about? the omnibus deal?
Actually, it’s a marketing gimmick. Cupp makes several points in her column about all the advertisers making mucho dinero over this movie.
Which is what makes the premier of the first movie so much more authentic. Star Wars was expected to be a so-so movie, if not a flop, and very few, if any, promoters foresaw a marketing business flourishing from it.
So the first movie could stand or flop on its own, without the crutch of artificial hype.

Same here. First three OK, then suffered through two horrid made-for-TV movies for little kids.
Could not get through next group of movies. Too childish.
Lucas later admitted he made the second group of three for little kids.
But if people want to see it, or not, that is their choice. I’ll pass.
The movies are really a lot of fun. I’m not seeing this one because (not giving anything away, although everyone knows by now), I’m not happy with one of the script developments. But for sheer fun, you can’t top the original three movies. Two hours of plain old escapism on a grand scale. These are the movies that gave us modern day FX. I hear this one is just a rehash of the first, so I doubt I’m missing anything. But I do recommend seeing the three originals at least once because they are a LOT of fun, and Harrison Ford is absolutely terrific. In fact, he made the movies for me. His character is hilarious, touching, charming, maddening, brave and vulnerable (sometimes).
You see, the easiest way to be cool is to figure out what everyone else thinks is cool, and then bad mouth it.
Its worked for me for years. I hope Cupp gets as much mileage out of it as I have.

This is her second article whining and moaning about a movie. I’m no Star Wars fan, the family went to see it and I didn’t but I’m thrilled they enjoyed and got such pleasure from it. I’m happy there’s a movie that brings such happiness to so many with all the rotten and depressing happenings in the world today.
Same here. I'm looking forward to seeing this one because the reviews are good, but I can wait at least a week or two. If nothing else, I figure the longer I wait the less likely I'll have to deal with the dialogue being drowned out by screaming/crying nerds.
