Poll: Ted Cruz leads in Iowa; Donald Trump stays atop NH, SC
CBS ^ | 12/20/15 | Staff

Posted on 12/20/2015 7:42:33 AM PST by VinL

Donald Trump, the national front-runner, keeps his big lead in two of the three early states of New Hampshire and South Carolina, but now Texas Sen. Ted Cruz has moved past Trump into a lead of his own in Iowa.

Florida Sen. Marco Rubio remains in double digits in New Hampshire and South Carolina, and Governor Chris Christie has now shown upward movement in New Hampshire, doubling his support there in the last month.

The backdrop to all this is a mood of anxiety - both economic and personal security - pervading the GOP electorate in these early states. Nine in ten in all states feel the country is now a more dangerous and insecure place, including 95 percent of Iowa GOP voters who say that, and nine in ten feel the nation's economic system is one that hurts them instead of benefits them. Terrorism and national security are now specifically front-and-center on primary voters' minds: in Iowa, 61 percent say it is their top decision-making criteria for candidates, ahead of the economy; in New Hampshire, 66 percent cite terrorism and security ahead of 28 percent on the economy.

Bit by the land bug in a big way, in the past several years Farris Wilks and his brother Dan have been buying ranches across the West. They picked up Tom Siebel’s 62,000-acre N Bar Ranch in Montana for $45 million in 2011. More recently, they snapped up nearly 300,000 acres in Montana and 36,000 acres in Idaho. They have plenty of cash to spend — the brothers sold their nearly 70% combined interest in hydraulic fracturing and oil field services outfit Frac Tech to a partnership led by Singapore’s Temasek Holdings for $3.5 billion in May 2011... Farris remains pastor of the Assembly of Yahweh 7th Day Church near Cisco.

And in 3 years in senate what exactly has Cruz accomplished? Made many friends in senate to back him on anything? Please post list of Ted Cruz sponsored bills which passed congress.

And, if Cruz had played nice with the Republican leadership and been allowed to contribute multiple bills to the GOP's legislative miasma, you would be in his corner, right?

C'mon, the fact that Cruz exposed McConnell, et al and is alienated from the "go along to get along" crowd are among his legitimate qualifications.

“Cruz has more money in his campaign than Trump does.”

And is beholden to donors then.

Trump has handled his money well - he’s spent less than anyone because he’s manipulated the media and gets free publicity.

Isn’t that how our country should be run - by fiscally responsible people.

You think getting along is always capitulating, but a leader gets along by drawing others to their side. That’s what Reagan did, but I guess you’d say he shouldn’t have been president then.

There’s no point to having taxpayers fund a politician that either capitulates or alienates his party because they don’t accomplish what they are voted in for and paid for.

"Go along to get along" defines capitulation.

From your comment, I gather that you favor Mitch McConnell and the Republican Senate rank & file to the Cruz/Lee/Sessions faction.

I know you don't. But that's what you're inferring.

I never said ‘go along to get aling.’ why are you misquoting me, then attacking me for it. it’s not very honest.

How is drawing someone to their side capitulating? I feel like I’m in 1984 with the double speak. Reagan drew people to his side, he had lots of cross-over voters and got congress to go along with his ideas. If that’s your definition of capitulating, then it becomes a good thing. (it’s not my definition)

Are you stupid? Most of Ted Cruz's hard campaign money comes from small donors of $100 or less. In fact Ted Cruz has received small donations from vastly more small donors than any other GOP candidate. That shows his very strong grassroots support.
So yeah, he is beholden to the American voter.

Because you misrepresented me.

You think getting along is always capitulating...

When that's not what I said.

"... alienated from the "go along to get along" crowd..."

I made no comment that could be misconstrued as denying that Reagan was a leader who drew people to his side. And I would suggest that, if Cruz becomes President, Congress will "go along with his ideas". Because Mitch McConnell will quickly be superseded as majority leader by somebody like Jeff Sessions.

Are we square now?

Typical Cruz supporter response, insults. No different than liberals, really

Club for Growth donated over $700,000. They’ll want something in return. And that billionaire donated millions as well. No, I don’t believe people donating $20 adds up to mire than all the big donors.

You missed my point, which is that Cruz does not have the personality to attract followers and friends. He is opposite of Reagan who got along famously with speaker Tip O’Neill and thus was able to get a lot of his agenda passed through congress and become law. Cruz has made more enemies in US Senate than any senator I can think of in 50 years.

You have been posting some pretty stupid stuff on this thread like claiming Trump had $10 Billion in cash on hand when he is not even worth $5 Billion and almost all of it is tied up in real estate.

Club for Growth donated over $700,000

Nope. Never happened. It's even against the law for anyone to contribute more than $3000 to any campaign. Don't you even know anything?

No, I don’t believe people donating $20 adds up to mire than all the big donors.

Did I make any mention of $20 in any of my posts? Plus of course it's easily possible to raise big money from small donors if you have enough small donors. Just ask Bernie Sanders. He's raised more hard cash than any of the GOP candidates including Jeb Bush. And all of it is from small donors.

Ummmm... That is to a Super PAC. Quite different from the Cruz campaign. By law, the Cruz campaign cannot have access to Super PAC money or coordinate with the Super PAC in any way.

Is that why Cruz has received more small donations from more grassroots small donors than any other GOP candidate and is currently neck and neck with Hilary Clinton, while our “popular” reality tv host is getting clobbered by 10 to 11 points by Hilary Clinton?

10c, silver dime, I’ll pay you the first primary Cruz wins after the Iowa caucuses. Trump is nominated with no more Cruz wins, you pay me the same, OK?

Exactly true. People like to watch Cruz and Trump go after the media and RINOs, but the difference is that Trump will turn around and work with them from a position of strength because of it.
