"I can't believe I'm saying this. But I might prefer President Trump," writes liberal columnist Ruth Marcus for the Washington Post in a piece declaring Texas Senator Ted Cruz "more dangerous" than the real estate mogul. Marcus argues that Trump would be far more likely to cut deals with Democrats "on taxes, on funding Planned Parenthood, on implementing Obamacare, you name it." Cruz, by contrast, would die hard on such issues.
Marcus offers an enlightening glimpse into the fears of the political establishment. Of particular note is this unexpected benefit of Trump's candidacy:
... Trump's ascendancy and the outrageousness of his pronouncements have made Cruz appear like the more reasonable alternative. As Sen. Dean Heller (R-Nev.) told me in an interview for Washington Post Live, "I don't think six months ago anybody would have thought that Ted Cruz was mainstream. . . . Trump has made Cruz mainstream."
That's one way to look at it. Perhaps the Republican Party will ultimately end up with a nominee other-than-Trump who Trump effectively enables. Wouldn't that be something?
Trump is the pack leader taking the wind and expending the most effort. Cruz is riding behind, drafting, hoping to break out down the stretch.
Conservatives should all see Trump is pushing the entire national debate to the right and helping them.
Just the contrary, as much of an “outsider” as Cruz is, he’s much more likely to try and “cut deals” because he has more “insider connections.”
My theory ping .....
...because we must NEVER cut taxes or any government program!!!
“Trump would be far more likely to cut deals with Democrats “...
Trump will only cut deals with Dems if it’s for the bottom line improvement of AMERICA, not the bottoms of politicans’ pockets.
Is it not laughable to see and hear the word “dangerous” bandied about in reference to Trump and Cruz when the real danger is sitting in the white hut?
The deal cutting is part of the process and is ongoing I’d guess.
Super Pacs are a wonderful tool.
“Is Trump Paving the Way for Ted Cruz?”
Yes, because the entire universe revolves around him, because he is God, and we exist to serve.
I could easily hear a headline tomorrow that says: “Life found on Mars. Is it there to pave the way for Cruz????”
Trump cemented his likelihood of being the GOP nominee last night. And likely next President of the USA. Nobody is going to catch him now.
“...writes liberal columnist Ruth Marcus..”
Don’t worry Ruth Marcus. Trump is just saying all that stuff to get the nomination. All your favorite liberal policies and entrenched big government technocrats will stay firmly in place. How do I know this? If Trump really wanted to do conservative stuff, he would have been doing it before now. Cruz; however, is a serious conservative who knows that all your friends are stationed throughout every part of the government.
Yes, of course he is. Whether it’s intentional or not is another question.
“...the bottom line improvement of AMERICA...”
Something the Rats will never agree to. They are fundamentally opposed to improving America.
I see someone finally read the “stalking horse bidder” chapter in Trump’s the “Art of the Deal.”
As far as I’m concerned, in this election, the only thing important is stopping the spread of islam. All of the other issues won’t matter once we’re under sharia law. And Trump is the ONLY one who will attempt to do something about it.
Not intentionally.
I disagree. With Cruz as President, it would be the Democrats dying hard on such issues.
‘Is Trump Paving the Way for Ted Cruz?”
That has been Trump’s significance all along
Then Trump won’t be cutting deals with them...
