The university officially recognizes Ramadan. How about Kwanzaa?
To: markomalley
Well, what could have brought all this on? I don’t recall Christians and Jews having any problems with each other’s religious holidays and symbols on college campuses in the past.

Only if she is inflatable and waves the spear around.
I think Lowes has one.

I am a semi-lapsed Catholic who goes to a non-denominational Church.
The most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen in my life was walking the streets in a residential part of Tel-Aviv last year and looking at the real-live Hannuka (sp?) candles on day 8 in thousands of apartment and house windows.
Far as the eye could see.

I took a walk around the UT campus when I was in town for Thanksgiving. The main walkway between the library and the humanities building was covered with messages in colored chalk honoring “out” student pioneers of the transgender ilk. You read about this stuff but it really brings it home to see it right there in person.
I’ve asked myself why Knoxville, a midsize town in east Tennessee, would be sort of an epicenter for this latest social justice silliness. I’ve got some thoughts on it but it’s still funny (not funny ha ha) to see.

I’ll take three! One for my house, one for my parish and one for the local Campus Ministry!

I thought the holidays were suppose to be inclusive, especially Christmas with the wishes of peace on Earth and good will to others. You don’t have to believe in Christ to know those ideas are a good.

Iâve asked myself why Knoxville, a midsize town in east Tennessee, would be sort of an epicenter for this latest social justice silliness. Iâve got some thoughts on it but itâs still funny (not funny ha ha) to see.I'd like to hear your thoughts. I've known my share of self-precious gay southerners, guys who prance around in white suits and talk like Truman Capote, guys who adore the antiques and tatted doilies and high Georgian or plantation architecture, and assorted narcissistic hipsters (sun-bleached and tanned edition), guys who run the tourist and restaurant and bed'n'breakfast with floral wallpaper trades; but the trans thing is a new wrinkle. Enlighten me.

... the trans thing is a new wrinkle. I think it is being used as a NEW blanket descriptor for ALL types of weird sexual items these days.
