Full title: Love him or hate him? Frugal homeowner, 30, gets TROLLED for boasting about paying off his $255,000 mortgage thanks to Kraft dinners, no social life and three jobs
Mortgage free: Sean Cooper of Toronto, Canada paid off his $255,000 mortgage on his bungalow (pictured) in three years by the age of 30

I wish I had that kind of diligence and self-control. Not only do I applaud him for the impressive effort to get out of debt, but also to have been able to land a $400k house even with the mortgage at that age.

My wife’s parents bought a 110 acre farm in 1947, built a house on it and paid it off in 5 years.

He thinks he paid for it by hard work and self-denial, but it was really White Privilege.

Good for him. He is probably already living debt free or with limited debt, which means he is probably better financially prepared for that ultimate SHTF sunrise.

My congratulations to Sean Cooper. It took me many years of buying and selling houses to achieve what he has at age 30.
I did most of it by buying, rehabbing and selling. Usually three steps forward and two back. Recessions, wrong decisions on neighborhoods and a little piss poor luck, but I finally achieved it. Just about the same time my brother paid off his VA mortgage he took out in 1969.

More power to him. More people should be so fiscally responsible. We retired with a paid off house. It’s a good feeling to be in that position.

Only lazy libs are offended by this. Good on him. Better to work 3 jobs and get it paid off early than wait until the interestest builds up and having to work 4 jobs. Now, he can relax, find a good woman, have a couple of kids and she (or he) can stay home and raise them right.

He sounds like a disciple of Dave Ramsey, like me. Paid off home mortgages are the BMWs of today.

Not to worry. An ex wife will take it from him soon enough.

Apparently his contemporaries think hard work and living frugally makes you a tool of EEEEEVIL corporations. Sad.
To: afraidfortherepublic
This is the Dave Ramsey way. Living cheap (meaning within your means) and getting out of debt early in life is the mantra now. I was late to the game, but am pursuing that goal myself, and am encouraging my kids to do the same.
Remember, the borrower is slave to the lender. The more debt you have, the more you are a slave...

Wow— good for him. I didn’t even have a house at age 30. Dave Ramsey would be proud. Let the negative losers be losers as their biggest issue resides between their ears and in their chests.

Well good for him. He rents out the upstairs of that house.
We all make choice and I admire his setting a plan and sticking to it. I was doing other things at his age, like building a family and working two jobs. I was married with children at that point in my life. It's all about balance.
