US announces 'expeditionary force' to target Isis in Iraq and Syria
The Guardian ^ | December 1, 2015 | Dan Roberts

A permanent new US “expeditionary force” will target Islamic State militants in Iraq and Syria, operating independently of local troops in Iraq and Syria for the first time, defense secretary Ash Carter has revealed, in a significant escalation of the frontline use of American ground troops in the region.

Addressing Congressional leaders who are demanding swifter progress against Isis, Carter said on Tuesday that the troops would be based in Iraq but will have the capability to carry out raids across the border.

“It puts everybody on notice in Syria,” he said. “You don’t know at night who is going to be coming in the window.”

"It is from this that open-ended commitments to do military stuff lead straight into a quagmire"

Yep, happens every time.

Worse, sometimes they set objectives that are not achievable by military means...like "Bring democracy to goat f*ckers".

We can either kill them, or leave them alone. But they will never have Republican government.

Never.

Their job will be to thwart Putin’s attacks on ISIS and gather intelligence on Russian maneuvers and share it with ISIS leadership.

Because the enemy islamist soebarkah feels a need to demonstrate that he’s doing something to combat isis, while he’s actually putting our miniscule forces on the ground and in the air there at tremendous risk.

Pray for our forces afield.

From the announcement: "The 5th MEB provides a scalable, standing, joint capable, forward-deployed headquarters in the CENTCOM AOR capable of conducting expeditionary operations, crisis response and limited contingency operations in support United States Central Command operational requirements."

They are marines, so I am sure they will do fine despite this B.S. written by some overpaid D.C. beltway bandit consultancy.

Russia is in Syria th the request of the Syrian government.

Did the Syrian government request the US to send in troops?

Are they working within the Syrian military system, or are they there to undermine the Syrian government, and thus be considered spies and hostile invaders?

y theory - Obama will precipitate an armed confrontation with Russia just before leaving office. Part of his ‘fundamental transformation’ program.”

My theory too. I just can feel it.

That was the point of the shoot down. They wanted Putin to over react which did not happen. Instead he fortified his position and isolated Turkey. Expect to see more bear poking.

My take and wild ass guess. Neocons, like McCain and Graham, are running things behind the scenes regarding Syria. Somehow, someway they’ve gained leverage and are making Obama implement McCains plans. Without that internal pressure Obama would like to ignore Syria altogether and focus on BLM, climate change, gun grabs, etc.

That’s not it. Obama, McCain, and others have gained/held political clout by doing the CIA’s bidding.

Yeah, I know...it sounds far-fetched.

...until you look at the evidence. Obama kept Gitmo open, even after making closing it on his “first day in Office” such a large part of his 2008 campaign.

Then Obama signed the Patriot Act renewal, after campaigning against “Bush’s unconstitutional Patriot Act.”

Obama’s entire “Arab Spring” is straight out of Langley. Giving a big speech in Egypt during his first 100 days...shaking Mubarak’s hand...and then overthrowing Mubarak via Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood.

Then overthrowing the governments of Tunisia, Algeria, and Libya...the later with USA bombing campaigns that directly violated the War Powers Resolution.

It’s war-mongering on an enormous scale, such as overthrowing Putin’s boy in the Ukraine via Obama’s Maiden Revolution there.

The war in Syria?!

Obama’s war inside Yemen (that overthrew a pro-USA President!)?!

It’s vast, and the complicit news media plus silent left-wing reek of CIA influence here.

No Code Pink rallies against Obama sending USA troops back into Iraq and on the ground in Syria?!

WTF?!

This is highly orchestrated.

Poking Putin *and* China via NATO, Turkey, and U.S. Naval provocations is clearly a coherent plan for a much, much larger war (against both!).

Madness.

...but anyway, you can tell who is “in on it” by each insider who parrots the CIA talking points on the nonsense related to the above, such as demanding a “No Fly Zone” where USA jets are shooting down Russian fighters over Syria.

Hillary, Jeb, and Rubio have *all* taken the CIA’s deal. Anyone who parrots such talking points is in on the scam.

So, the CIA is supporting the expansion of the Muslim empire?

Isn’t that what “spreading democracy” accomplishes?!

Pretty sure those areas aren’t part of the “Muslim Empire” that you were referring to, but if you want to make your case for Germany then I’ll listen.

You were making snide remarks about spreading democracy by a U.S. Intelligence agency. There are many good people in the CIA. My wife graduated from Stanford with a couple of their recruits, both of which were electrical engineers.

The CIA is at war with itself. Yes, there are great people there, especially at lower levels.

The civil war inside the CIA might be between the jocks vs the nerds, but it is more realistically viewed as a war between nationalists vs internationalists.

The internationalists drew up the “Arab Spring” policy for spreading democracy in the Middle East. A similar plan was implemented in the Ukraine (Maiden Revolution) on a $4 Billion (public) budget.

The above has failed miserably. Ukraine has broken up. The Crimea has been annexed by Russia.

Egypt’s pro-USA Mubarak was overthrown by Obama’s Arab Spring backing of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood. Here at least the CIA’s failure was mitigated, as the Muslim Brotherhood itself was unable to hold power there.

Libya, however, is a clusterphruck. ISIS holds entire cities there because of the CIA’s ridiculous concept of “Spreading democracy” there even though Ghadafy had finally become a non-threat.

The CIA’s recent revolutions in Tunisia and Algeria started out OK, but both nations are now trouble spots because of Obama’s interference there.

The CIA’s Yemen policy resulted in the ouster of yet another pro-USA leader. It’s civil war continues. The CIA has been a complete failure here.

CIA policy in Lebanon was thwarted, as the Cedar Revolution played out differently from CIA desires there.

CIA+Obama’s policy in Syria is a nightmare. Massive, multi-million-refugee crisis from the CIA’s ridiculous attempts to oust Assad there...and NATO shooting down a Russian fighter jet in Syria has raised the prospect of a global thermo-nuclear war.

The above is because the CIA’s internal civil war between nationalists and internationalists has gender-sensitive and Affirmative Action placements in so much of the Agency that policies are ill-thought-out and their implementations are even worse.

Yeah, there are good people inside the CIA, but not enough good people there to prevent the bad actors from pushing the world to the brink of WW3.

Ukraine is on fire.
The Middle-East is on fire.

Russia and China have been provoked and are both enraged at the USA.

It’s bad.

The CIA did as ordered by president Hussein. Brennan is rumored to be a Muslim himself as is Valerie Jarrett, the Iranian Muslim.
