The Most Surprising Thing About the Colorado Springs Shooting
Red State ^ | December 1st, 2015 | Erick Erickson

Posted on 12/01/2015 5:33:35 AM PST by detective

This past Friday, a lunatic who lived in a shack with no running water or electricity killed three people in Colorado Springs, CO. He wound up going into a Planned Parenthood facility. Three people were killed. None of those were abortionists or patients. A pro-life Christian preacher/police officer was one of the victims.

“How? They were behind locked doors that he could not access.

So, again, how could he shoot them when he couldn’t get to them.”

I just found an interview from someone who appears to be an employee of the PP facility here: http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/planned-parenthood-victim-kearre-stewart-tried-save-others-n471126

Her interview is about 1/3 of the way down the page. She clearly saw and described the gunman in some detail, and yet, he never turned his gun on her.

“They were behind locked doors that he could not access.”

They were behind locked doors after the shooting in the parking lot.

If he had just walked in quietly and unobtrusively he could have shot at least one and probably several. If he were targeting employees he would have gone inside first and shot the employees first.

No one knows all that happened during the time he was inside PP. He may very well have tried to shoot more people when he was inside. He was mentally ill.

But he began by shooting random people in the parking lot.

I want to make clear that I realize I do not have all the facts. The case information is sealed. I am trying to determine what happened based on what information is available.

She saw him for a few seconds. She saw him shoot “three or four” times before she ran to the back - behind a security door. He was shooting people outside.

At most, he could have shot one employee, maybe two if one were accessing the waiting area.

And he was shooting people in a PP parking lot. Not a King Soopers or bank parking lot, the PP parking lot. He started with easy targets.

Oh, and no you aren’t trying to figure out what happened based on the information available. You are trying to prove he wasn’t attacking PP, but rather that just ended up being where he went.

I have seen it over and over here. In fact, I had thought that was initially what was happening Friday; that he had tried to rob the bank and then ended up having to use the PP as cover.

But more and more the evidence is he went to the PP with the intent of killing people at the PP. His mental illness prevented him from making rational decisions, like what you described.

Because his mental illness made him think shooting people at a PP was OK.

“He was in the PP parking lot. The PP is not in the same shopping center as the King Soopers or banks.”

Yes, that's where he ended up, but where did he start? Did he have a car? If so, where was it parked? How did he get to the PP parking lot? Did he start there, or was he running from trouble elsewhere? There is a field with a short street between the bank/grocery store and the PP facility that would be no problem for him to run to if he was running from a botched bank robbery attempt.

I would like to have some facts, not more idle speculation. Even the report of him talking about “no more baby parts” was from an anonymous source and repeated endlessly as if it is true.

Pickup was parked in the PP parking lot.

“Pickup was parked in the PP parking lot.”

And what is your source for that detail?

Thanks.

I agree he was probably mentally ill. But if you think you know his intentions and his motivations and why his actions were not those of someone with those intentions than we just have to agree to disagree.

Here is a pretty good article. It doesn’t have the info on his vehicle. I recall that from Friday night either in a police update or media report:

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/colorado-springs-shooting-robert-lewis-dear-neighbors-planned-parenthood-attack/

Here is another good article with more explanation of the supposed “baby body parts” comment; past interactions with neighbors (they all knew he was a nut). And his life before his divorce and after.

One thing that is curious to me - once inside PP his main concern continued to be police. He could have run around the building killing people...but he didn’t. either he lost his nnerv and focus...or he was focused on something else entirely.

Yes, he sounds like a nut. The weed undoubtedly didn't help.

I'm still curious about his vehicle.

If he was targeting PP, it would seem that he would have tried harder to kill those inside instead of shooting random people in the parking lot. It wouldn't have been too tough to at least get the receptionist, it seems to me, along with the lady who described him in some detail if he was targeting PP.

It seems odd to me that he would be using a shotgun to try to kill people in an office. It would be pretty hard to sneak it into the PP facility. Maybe that's the only gun he had.

Who knows what was going on in his head? We may or may not ever know. What we do know is that those on the left are using this to try to paint him as a typical pro-lifer.

He couldn’t get to those inside PP. Even if he were mentally stable enough to make that kind of plan, as soon as he got into the building, security measures would have kicked in, just like they did. He wouldn’t have had that many targets inside.

In regards to the vehicle, there were reports on Friday night they were concerned that his vehicle may be booby trapped (not their words), and they needed to secure it and devices he took into and/or placed around PP.

This was a reason given to why they would not allow people to retrieve their cars from other parking lots in the area. All of them were cleared by daybreak Saturday morning.

The Lifesite news article had a brief interview with ex-wife that he was pretty normal. Wonder why they got a divorce; he was probably starting to exhibit some mental illness even then. But she was shocked at his current appearance and behavior.

I think you are grasping at straws. Unless the security was so tight that only patients could get in through the front door, he would have been able to target one or more employees/patients. He didn’t do that.

“In regards to the vehicle, there were reports on Friday night they were concerned that his vehicle may be booby trapped (not their words), and they needed to secure it and devices he took into and/or placed around PP.”

Still doesn’t answer the question. Where, exactly, was his vehicle parked?

The vehicle report was in the PP parking lot.

Yes, if he was of mental capacity to make a plan to wait until he entered the facility to start shooting, he could have shot an employee or two and several patients or those in the waiting area as he entered.

But, they saw him shooting people outside of the facility, through the front windows. One of the articles I posted described how when that happened, the PP employees moved people behind a security door into the back of the facility.

Unanswered oddity: The only thing I would say about that is that the Chase bank is not next to PP (I live in the Springs, been in the shopping center 50 times at least). PP is NOT in the shopping center, it's further north, a separate driveway. A little field separating them from the bank (a parcel the size of 3-4 suburban house lots).Supposedly the shooting started at the Chase Bank. It is 150 yards away from PP. If he was targeting PP, he certainly did it in a screw-brained way, doesn't make sense that he would start at the bank, maybe those were shots "from a distance?" But then, the man is nuts. If the shooter was in PP, why did the police go to the bank lot? There's a medical building closer to PP than the bank, would have given them better cover.

Yes, “King Soopers” is a Rocky Mountain subsidiary of Kroger. All the “generic stuff in the store is marked “Kroger.” “
