Russian MP: Turkey to Return Hagia Sophia to Greece as Friendly Gesture

By Philip Chrysopoulos - Nov 30, 2015

Russian MP Sergei Gavrilov suggested that Turkey should return Hagia Sophia to the Greek Orthodox Church as a gesture of good will, in light of the refugee issue and the Turkey-Russia diplomatic episode.

"The Russian side considers it possible to remind of Hagia Sophia, one of the oldest Christian holy places and the ancient Byzantine cathedral, which is now situated in Turkey. We expect from the Turkish side a friendly step - to return the Cathedral to the hands of the Orthodox church of Constantinople. The Russian side is ready to provide financial assistance and enlist the best Russian restorers and scientists' aid in the restoration of the ecumenical Christian artifact. Such step would help Turkey and Islam to show that the good will is above politics," Gavrilov said, according to Russia's RCB TV.

Gavrilov is a member of the Communist Party faction and coordinator of the inter-faction deputy group on protecting Christian values. According to the report, several Russian lawmakers support the idea.

Fat chance of that ever happening, they’d destroy it first. Turkey is aligned with ISIS and is providing aid an comfort for them.

Add this to the mix also:

The Prime Ministers of Greece and Turkey took diplomatic relations to a new level of transparency when they engaged in a heated exchange over foreign policy on Twitter on Sunday.

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras began the discussion by sending tweets criticising Turkey’s downing of a Russian jet and the country’s apparent violation of Greek airspace.

The tweets, which have now been deleted from the English version of the Greek Prime Minister’s account were, of course, screen grabbed by avid social media users, including the below from AFP journalist Danny Kemp.

Turkey will never allow it to not be a mosque again.

It's not a mosque now. It's a museum. But I agree that Turkey will never willingly give it up. Russia can take it in the war that's about to start. Crazy times.

Yes, literaly "incredible" in the sense of "not to be believed." The headline implies that the Turks are going along with this proposal. This is not the case.

Not. The. Case.

Russia is the new Christian Crusader Nation. They survived 70 years of communism and are never going back there again. If they have to nuke the world to get rid of islam and the new world order they will. Probably after Hillary is elected.
