'Putting meat on the table' is wearing rather thin. Hunting is only an excuse to stalk and kill and 'impress' your friends. There's meat at the grocery store.

And yes, my father brought his 'kills' home and my mother cooked it- reluctantly. She said it stunk up the house.

She didn't like venison and neither did I (that was back when I ate meat and was probably responsible for my revulsion at eating meat.

I don't think even my father liked it. It was just the way he was raised; go out and kill deer and other animals. Big macho man.
