Trump abruptly cancels black clergy press conference
Politico ^

Posted on 11/29/2015 3:40:44 PM PST by springwater13

The campaign originally announced the press conference in a press release on Wednesday, writing, “Trump will be joined by a coalition of 100 African American Evangelical pastors and religious leaders who will endorse the GOP frontrunner after a private meeting at Trump Tower.”

But some of those listed as invitees quickly took to social media to condemn the billionaire businessman. Detroit pastor Corletta Vaughn called Trump “an insult and embarrassment” in a Wednesday Facebook post.

Amid the furor, the campaign canceled the public portion of the event. The private meeting will go forward as planned, and Scott said that the guest list has continued to grow in recent days. Even as some pastors drop out, he said he expects the total attendance to exceed 100. “Ever since this controversy came out of this meeting, more pastors have contacted me seeking admission,” he said.

It is not clear how many endorsements Trump will receive following the meeting.

Scott said that the criticism he and other black pastors have faced from for dealing with Trump has been withering.

“We’ve been called Uncle Toms, sellouts, coons … We have preachers calling us ‘prostitutes on a pole,’” he lamented, referring to an epithet leveled by one Baltimore minister. “If Donald Trump said that, the entire nation would be in an uproar.”

Sounds like you’re swallowed the narrative of the media scum hook, line and sinker.

Trump’s people are pros. They know the media is scum and seeks to attack them at every turn. Guaranteed when they sent out invitations they were told who would be endorsing and who would not be. So there announcement is genuine and sincere.

Then the media found a couple of disgruntled pastors via social media who were invited but who declined to endorse so they were not going. The scumbag media then sent out reports that Trump lied about the endorsements and you’ve bought into that.

Now, seeing the scumbag media poised for attack, the Trump people elect to keep the meeting private so that the pastors who are attending and endorsing won’t be harassed and targeted by having their names publicized.

So the media gets whipped because the Trump people will still be able to announce the endorsements but without revealing the names. One of the pastors will likely vouch for the endorsements thereby putting an end to the expected narrative that the Trump people are lying about the endorsements.

As conservatives and patriots sharpen their swords, they will ensure the scumbags in the media are frustrated and made to look foolish every day from now into the indefinite future. It’s so easy to set traps for the media A-holes.

I don’t think Trump **lied** about the endorsements. It does sound, though, based on Trump’s own press release from a few days ago, that Trump was bragging about endorsements when many had just signed up for a meeting.

Ted Cruz gets the endorsements before scheduling a meeting. Trump should take notice it will save him from this sort of thing

My guess is that these pastors had a list of demands for Trump should he get elected, Trump told them to get bent and now they're bitching about it on social media.

Of course he would. He is a Ted Cruz fan. They have a mean streak in them.

I am a Ted Cruz fan, and I have been scrupulous of pointing out the good that Mr. Trump does as well as areas of disagreement. I post frequently, and I do not think any of my posts can be characterized as mean, unless they are aimed at Romney or John Ellis Bush.

There are other Ted Cruz fans like me, and there are Donald Trump fans who post unsubstantive things things like "Ted Cruz can't win" etc.

We saw the divide and conquer last time around. Ignore those Cruz supporters who don't follow the good Senator's lead, and Mr. Trump's example as well, and save our barbs for John Ellis Bush and Marco "NSA all the way" Rubio. (I've been laying off Rubio, but now he has picked a side, the wrong side.)

Many of the pastors have already appeared in Trump’s office in Manhattan before. He knows these people very well and has prayed with them on many occasions.

Trump’s people are pros. They don’t put out an announcement without having everything confirmed.

What happened is yesterday there were some social media facebook, twitter like discussions from some pastors who said they had been invited but who declined because they dod not want to be seen as endorsing Trump. But the 100 that were announced were not interviewed, only the apparently disgruntled ones who weren’t attending anyway.

So the scumbags in the media jumped in and tried to make it look like Trump had overstated when in fact he had not. The 100 who are endorsing him are still attending but their names are going to be kept private for their security.

The leftist press is scum. But too bad for them that the American people are now on to them more than ever before.

Trump says that he was told these were endorsements but I agree there was dissension in the invitees who went to the media way before the press conference was cancelled.
