"The dirty little secret is that there has been a bipartisan project of corporatism, the economic underpinning of fascism, for almost a century."
Five years ago, antiwar liberals calling the Bush administration fascist were labeled as kooks, marginalized by their own party leadership, accused by conservatives of treasonous thoughts worthy of federal punishment, even deportation. A few years pass, the policies hardly change, and the political dynamic turns upside down: tea-party conservatives accusing the Obama regime of fascist impulses are compared to terrorists, accused of being racists, told that their hyperbole is a real threat to the country's security.
The establishment derides both groups for their fringe outlook on America, convinced that the United States is anything but a fascist country. After all, isn't America the nation that defeated fascism in the 1940s? Sensible conservatives and liberals agree with that...

I quit reading at this line.
Five years ago, antiwar liberals calling the Bush administration fascist were labeled as kooks, marginalized by their own party leadership,
The Dem leadership was encouraging this as was the media.
That does not mean we could not descend into one. Certainly, more autocratic-type presidents like Obama, and we'll be one in few decades. But we're not there yet.
Interpolating Tragedy & Hope with The Plot to Seize the White House, fascism is the political manifestation of the period of economic history known as Monopoly Capitalism.
When you quit reading at that line, you missed the next one. The famous “I quit reading” when one disagrees or is offended just ignorant. Even if you fully oppose the writer,, its is very good to understand your opponents thinking.
The next line..
“A few years pass, the policies hardly change, and the political dynamic turns upside down: tea-party conservatives accusing the Obama regime of fascist impulses are compared to terrorists, accused of being racists, told that their hyperbole is a real threat to the country’s security.”
Heard a guy on Coast Coast AM last night:
Daniel Sheehan : The Middle East rise and fall of ISIS the forgotten history of the USA and the middle East:
Saying that it was some powerful people here in the USA including H.W. Bush’s father ( or grandfather, and Presscott Bush ) in this elite wealthy group of Robberbarrons like the Rockefellers, DuPont, the Carnegies,
With some law firm named Brown and Sololoman created some bank called:
The New York Union Bank with some offshoot of this bank in Germamy who gave Germany loans after WWI.
Then in the 1920s 1930s helped fund and establish the Nazi Party in Germany in the 1930s to counter the Boshovics in the Soviet Union.
They picked and choose Adolf Hitler to run this party but he got out of hand ( sounds just like what happened to Saddam Hussein ).
This same group after WWII helped move what was left of the facist Nazi party to South America like places in Brazil.
All the Middle East countries after WWI were nothing but set up puppet regimes.
Interesting show last night on Coast to Coast AM.
The Bush family is not to be trusted in hindsight with the GOPe.
Stay out of the Bushes.
The more and more we look at it, the Democratic Party, The GOPe establishment, the wealthy elite in charge, the media, governments ? It’s all of the same group.
We are the smurfs..... Eat your pudding that your overlords provide for you and be good little smurfs.
Remember! Roosevelt’s several “New Deals’ were based on Mussolini’s Italian Fascism. Most people don’t know that, especially the die-hard Roosevelt supporters.
I did not read the whole thing.
But yes, if you go by the dictionary definition of fascism, we are there. Corporatism run amok. Government favoritism abounds in all manner of tax laws, bailouts, subsidies, government contracts, government sanctioned/ created monopolies ... one set of laws for the big guys, a completely separate set of laws for the rest of us, etc.
Yes indeedy, Daniel Sheehan talked alot about the rise of the Robberbarrons after the Civil War and Standard Oil owned by the Rockefellers was one of them who helped finance Adolf Hitler.
Just like what happened to Saddam Hussein.
I would not be surprized that the US Constitution has bene suspended since the Civil War.
The so called elite overlords have given us our “ Token Freedoms and Liberties “ so to speak..... They will rien in those token freedoms and liberties ( as they are doing now ) when they get ready to tighten the noose..
Since the Civil War the overlord “ Elite “ wealthy allowed us to have our elections, and pet Democrocy so as long as the Smurfs don’t get out of hand and to powerful while they ( the ruling elite ) go and conquer the rest of the world and subdue it and control it.
Perhaps the Civil War was all about who was going to be in control of the wealth, the new industrial revolution, and reap the profits by trading with wealthy Europe.
It was either the industries of the North, or the cotton industry of the south who was to win out.
It wasn’t about states rights or slavery, they needed a boogieman, a cause to continue that war.
Look who the industrial revolution exploded after the Civil War and the Dynasty from the 1870s to the 1940s of these Robberbarrons.
Exactly...
The laws for the Smurfs, and their own special rules for the ruling elite overlords......
The US Constitution has been suspended ( as far as the ruling class goes ) since the Civil War.
We just mearly have token freedoms and liberties whereas they “ allow us “ to have our little elections while they monitor those elections so the smurfs don’t get out of hand and to powerful, and they allow us our pet token “ Democrocy “.
Their dirty hands will always be in charge and control of our elections that they deemed and allow us to have.
Cheap slave cotton from the South (plus other slave areas) was the main reason textile industries in the North and England were able to develop into Industrial Revolution as it did.
Without ultra cheap slave cotton (and sugar, tobacco and rubber to lesser extents), they would not have been so profitable and it is doubtful we would have had the Industrial Revolution, at least not as quickly as it happened.
So, while the North and England supposedly opposed slavery, the wealthy elite of both were utterly dependent on cheap slave cotton (and other products) for their continued success and wealth.
for later
That's a pet peeve! Something is either unique or it is not.
I believe there are politicians in both parties that are flat-out fascists and we live in a police state NOW. But since this was written, the people (right & left) stopped a war in Syria. At least for a few years.
Crony Capitalism is similar to Fascism.
Undoubtedly there's more and bigger government in the US now than there was in 1800 or 1900.
But how do we stack up against other countries of similar population size and density and similar level of economic development?
Mises.org and LewRockwell.com are a pack of preening ponces priding themselves on their political purity and their superiority to real world concerns.
I'm not saying everything he says is wrong, but those guys get to be real pains after a while.
I think my take on it was, "any concentration of power will be abused." There are all sorts of concentrations of power -- any institution really. But there was never one like The Internet.
