When I declare my giving at tax time I am required to have proof in case of an audit. That is sufficient. The other is nothing but an I.R.S. witch hunt.

yep. Vote for the "wrong" candidates and get put on the audit list or worse yet, the domestic terrorist list, for heightened NSA monitoring

If they want to be fair, then it's time to start taxing universities. That they can be sitting on tons of endowment cash, pay exorbitant salaries to university presidents, deans, etc., incessantly increase tuition, and qualify as non-profits is amazing. It's very interesting how the decisions are made about which entities are non-profit and which aren't. I'm sure there's no politics involved..

That’s just it... the IRS wants to do computerized cross-checks of charitable gunning claims without resorting to audits.
