Donald Trump taps into deep Republican anger at government

A sustained outburst of anger and deep disdain for government that has shaped the Republican race for president and confounded the pundits is not going away.

The spirit of insurrection that has powered outsider candidates like Donald Trump to the head of the polls is threatening to close an already narrowing lane for more traditional candidates in the frenzied run-up to the first early voting contests early next year.

A Pew Research Center poll published Monday showed that the deepest suspicion of government, though also elevated among the broader electorate, remains in the Republican Party. The intensity of that sentiment toward the nation's leaders helps explain the turbulent nature of the GOP's 2016 election race and the dominance of Trump.

With his explosive anti-establishment rhetoric, attacks on political correctness and deeply personal swipes at rival candidates, Trump has successfully tapped into this palpable fury in sectors of the Republican primary electorate and has skipped unharmed through controversies -- like branding undocumented immigrants from Mexico rapists and criminals and backing a database for Muslims in the United States -- that might have ended more traditional campaigns.

And with voters in Iowa and New Hampshire now just over two months away from weighing in on the contest, the conventional wisdom that outsider candidates such as Trump and neurosurgeon Ben Carson will fade seems to be on thinner ground than ever before.

The Pew poll shows that candidates like Trump who have fanned the flames of anger at government have sound political rationales for doing so.

Republicans and those who lean Republican are three times as likely as Democrats to say they are "angry" with government -- 32% to 12%. Among Republicans and Democrats who vote often and follow politics closely, the gap is even wider: 42% to 11%.

Trump’s success shows how completely out of touch the GOP, the DNC and the MSM really are. Middle America has been abused and ignored, and it’s fighting back, and the establishment is shocked.

"Trump has done nothing"

In other words: he's an outsider, just what we need, and he's not stupid.

We need to stop doing what hasn’t worked and doesn’t work. That’s not anger. That rational thinking.

You're right. Elections don't work and haven't for at least the last 60 years.

These friggin treasonous traitors should be dragged from their offices, tarred, feathered, and hung from DC lamp posts.

Yes, I would say that is anger.

....he also did not say “database for Muslims” !

......it was more like “I’m in favor of establishing a data base on these Syrian Refugees”.

“Now, why would anyone be upset about that?”

Why, no reason at all. The current inhabitants of that territory once know as “the United States of America”, except for a few “enlightened” persons, are mainly homophobes, xenophobes, benighted practitioners of an obsolete and irrelevant religion, and persons who have some sort of belief that other people should make some kind of effort to meet their OWN needs.

And everybody knows that sunshine, lollipops, rainbows and unicorn poop is REALLY what makes the world go around.

(Oh, criminality, do I HAVE to include the < /sarcasm > tag EVERY time?)

Trump has done nothing to fight that government except run his mouth.

President Cruz will fix it.

Seriously? Imagine where we would be right now in this race if Trump didn’t run and run his mouth. We’d have Jeb in first place with Rubio, Kasich, and Christy in a close 2nd, and Cruz would be much farther down in the polls (with Rand Paul) cast as the extreme kook fringe candidate that likes to read Green Eggs and Ham and singlehanded!y shut down the govt and caused poor people to not get their entitlements. The media would have totally written the narrative. There would be no talk about illegal immigration, a border wall, PC run amok, trade imbalances, jobs, etc. Cruz has Trump to thank for his position in the polls right now.

Oh, and Walker, Perry and Jindal would still be in the race also pulling oxygen from Cruz.

Actually, no. With Reuters, it’s all about its poll size. A bigger poll favors Trump, smaller polls, less so. This was a TINY poll (168) as opposed to the near 600 respondents in the polls that had him up to 42%. An average with Reuters is about 300, so you can probably add about 3-4% to this poll and get a real Reuters “average.”

The anger is both a shield and defense against further hurt. The hurt originates from fraud and deception.

But anger is only one facet of the overall profile of the electorate.

With respect to Donald Trump, his message is liberating (from the stifling effects of PC) and uplifting (Americans can and must do better).

If anger were the only reason to support Donald Trump, he would be so low in polls that he would have withdrawn by now.

What adheres voters to Trump is trust in his patriotism and track record of delivering on terms. He has a long record of taking hopeless things and making them golden.

Ted Cruz also engenders trust but Donald is able to unite many more factions which is why he is leading.

Those who fall into either the Trump or Cruz camps are to be congratulated for their perceptiveness. We must ensure that one of these two incredible Americans go the distance to become our President.

“Trump has done nothing to fight that government except run his mouth.

Well that’s a nice sentiment except that Cruz is just not able to convince the GOP voters. He’s not going to be the nominee. Its beginning to look a lot like Trump.

President Cruz will fix it.
LOL! But not before introducing "bipartisan legislation" and debating it to death...Then whining and crying about how he was lied to (by known masters of deceit)

Were you saying something about doing nothing except running off at the mouth?

And neither has Cruz....after all he is a ‘politician’ and can do something about things, that's why he was elected...where's the fence that has been approved by the House and Senate? Isn't Cruz in the Senate??? Doesn't he live in Texas? So where’ the fence?????

As far as Trump is concerned, he's not elected YET but will soon be, so before rattling off things about Trump how about rattling off things that a ‘sitting Senator’ can do and I have only see 1 bill with his name on it....how many things do you see with Trump's name on them? And Trump isn't even a ‘politician’ yet.......................

Lately the LSM has been going out of their way to tell RAT voters that only Republicans are fed up with the Establishment, only Republicans like Trump.

And 89% of Republicans said they can seldom, if ever, trust the federal government.

Then why do they keep electing RINOs?

Angry?
I was past "angry" after Waco.
White hot hate is more like it.

How about after Ruby Ridge which occurred under that RINO sonuvabitch GHWB? That bastard betrayed everything that Reagan stood for, and resulted in the Clinton Crime Syndicate seizing control of the executive branch, but hey, Bubba is just GWB's "brother by another mother" so it's all ok now, right?

Like Hell it is.

News update for ya Sparky: Trump has never held elective office before.

President Cruz will fix it.

Take a hint from my tagline before YOU 'run your mouth'.
