A reasonable amount of time for a thorough investigation and due process is understandable, but this dragged on too long. On these points I agree with many of the complaints of the protesters.

There was not much of an investigation - the police apparently went to the nearby Burger King and erased 86 minutes of the security tape. The only reason there are charges now is that some reporter got ahold of the video of one of the patrol cars and published it.

Faced with this, an investigation was started and charges were filed.
