Vladimir Putin has refused contact with Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan after the latterâs offer to meet because Ankara refuses to apologise, an aide to the Russian president said.
Relations between Moscow and Ankara have plunged into crisis since Tuesday when Turkey shot down a Russian warplane, claiming it had violated its airspace while flying over northern Syria.
The two pilots ejected from the plane but one was killed while another was rescued several hours later. In retaliation for Turkey's actions, Russia prepared to impose punishing economic sanctions against Turkey, including abandoning a flagship pipeline project and a $20 billion nuclear power deal.
Turkish media reported on Friday morning that the Turkish army suspended flights over Syria as part of the US-led coalition against Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil), in a decision taken after Turkey shot down the plane, diplomatic sources told Hurriyet Daily News.

Who said Putin was a tough hombre? Turkey just ripped him a new butt hole.
Come on Recap, give Vladimir a hug and tell him you’re sorry.
How many of us have studied the diplomatic nonsense leading up to WWI? Yet here we see it beginning to be repeated.
There is a General who uh is one’up’in Putin....lol
Liberal Democratic Party of Russia leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky has proposed to crush Turkey via a nuclear missile strike. This is according to the radio station âMoscow speakingâ.
âIstanbul is very easy to destroy: just one nuclear bomb in the Strait of Bosphorus, and it will wash away. It will be such a terrible flood, the water column will rise 10-15 meters, and the city will not be there any more, and there are 9 million lives in that cityâ, â said the leader of the liberal Democrats.
According to the partyâs leader, Turkeyâs allies in NATO will not interfere, âthey donât want to die in a nuclear fireâ. Zhirinovsky noted that currently Turkey is the number one enemy for Russia.
Every married man has been through the silent treatment. LOL Just ignore him, Vlad!
Meanwhile, Zhirinovsky, the leader of Liberal Democratic Party of Russia, is lobbing bombs as usual. Literally...
“One nuke into the strait and Istanbul will be washed away.” He added that Turkey might cease to exist.”
The Lindsey Graham of Russia, apparently.
I think he represents the Nationalist Extreme. Hopefully.

Why should the USA have Erdogan’s back? He is a Caliph wanna-be who is no better than Putin. The Turks did not have to shoot down that Russian plane.
Hell, the filthy Turks never apologized for the genocide of the Christian Armenians. This will be a piece of cake.
The Turks: Europe’s Mexicans.
The Turks can only be considered part of the coalition if the coalition's objective was to kill hundreds of Kurds involved in fighting ISIS.
Prior to WWI, all powers were involved in massive arms buildups. In the past quarter century since the end of the Cold War, all of the Western powers have been involved in massive cuts to defense, while indulging in massive increases in the civilian welfare regulatory industrial complex, which now dwarfs military spending 30 or 40 to 1 in most Western countries. Stateside, it's only just over 10 to 1. The risk isn't of a rush to war by the West - it's that the West will be overwhelmed by a surprise attack by a newly-emergent Russia and China, now purged of the Marxist virus (i.e. central economic planning) but still possessed of the expansive territorial ambitions of their forebears.
