We were. Power corrupts. The Founders understood that. Conservatives, too.

I don't know about the border angle. There are so many other ways of getting things across. But DC does seem to be completely under the influence of something very powerful, doesn't it? So I suppose it can't be ruled out prima facie.

I'm going to respectfully avoid the Bush discussion. I saw some of that in the old threads. I have a good impression of the family in general, even if I don't agree with Jeb. Furthermore, imho, Bush Derangement Syndrome is wielded too freely by too many of the usual suspects to be seen for anything other than what it is: agitprop.

I trust W, and I trust my judgment, that's all I'm going to say.

Fair enough.

Just to clarify my position...

I never ever bought the inside job theory on 9/11.

And I don’t hate the Bushes any more than the garden variety rino.

And yes, BDS is ridiculous.

Oops. The kindly Clintons plumb "forgot" to mention that they themselves opened the gates so that Planned Parenthood could traffic (and profit) in baby body parts.

Another good reminder. The water that the Clintons AND Obama have carried for Planned Parenthood is too voluminous to be coincidental. There must be some serious kickbacks in that business...laundering fraudulently gained taxpayer money.

Good point....prolly the (cough) compassionate Clintons get a cut (no pun intended) of the lucrative baby body parts business.

THE HILL.COM REPORTED: Bill and Hillary Clinton raised $2-3 billion (that they admit to) in the two decades theyve been prominent on the national stage, according to the WSJ.

The Journal tallied the Clintons astounding speaking fees, fundraising for their foundation and the sums raised for Bill Clinton’s two presidential campaigns for the DNC while he was in office and for Hillary Clinton’s Senate and presidential campaigns.

Between $1.3-2 billion came from US companies and industry sources, making up at least 75 percent of the sum — much much more than the 60 percent industry sources contributed to the two Bushes political operations.

Overall, the Clintons’ political operations raised $1.2 billion, their nonprofit "charity/foundation" drew between $750 million and $1.7 billion and they made about $100 million in speaking fees. --SNIP--

CLINTON, INC book review

Daniel Halper provides a meticulously researched account of the calculations, secret deals, and backstabbing that led to the Clintons’ return to political prominence, and to Hillary’s position as 2016 frontrunner.

The Bill and Hillary Clinton who left the White House in January 2001 almost seem like two different people from the ones the country now reveres. Back then they were a disgraced couple, weighed down by a decade of scandal, controversial pardons of financial supporters, and the pedestrian pilfering of furniture from the White House.

A dozen years later, as they prepare for a second White House run, the Clintons are in a completely different orbit. Not only have they gone from virtually penniless to multi-millionaires, they are arguably the two most popular politicians in America-respected and feared by Republicans and Democrats alike. Even their daughter Chelsea, raised in the White House as her father was impeached, is considering a go at politics. The Clintons will be around for some time to come.

Investigative reporter Daniel Halper of the conservative Weekly Standard uses a wealth of research and detailed interviews with friends, allies, and enemies of the Clintons to reveal the strategy they used and the deals they made to turn around their political fortunes-deals with their political allies, their political enemies, and even each other.

Let's not forget several hundred State Dept emails were found on the Clinton Foundation servers.....explains what Hillary was doing when she was supposed to be monitoring crucial aspects of US ntl security...including protecting the lives of her employees in Benghazi.

All the behind-the-scenes data (that she tried to keep hidden from taxpayers) indicates the only thing she WAS on top of was any and all State Dept insider info on which she and Bill could make a buck. Some enterprising reporter itching for a Pulitzer needs to match-up Hillary's official State Dept moves w/ the Clintons' vast buck-raking operation. That tell$ the whole $tory in exqui$ite detail.

===============================================

REFERENCE---At first glance, the Clintons astounding honoraria and humongous Foundation donations seem to provide the bulk of the couples mega income.

Bills honoraria increased dramatically-—earning some $50 million during Hillarys four-year term as Secretary of State....including an Irish scholarship fund, a Korean conglomerate, and, a Nigerian newspaper company......each of whom paid Clinton more than half a million dollars for a single speech.

The Wash/Post reports Hillary earned $11.7 million for 51 speeches since Jan 2014.....she pocketed an astonishing $625,000 for two speeches in one day!

===============================================

I firmly believe the Clinton Foundations gigantic donor list, and their astonishing blizzard of speaking honoraria, are a smoke screen for their secret wealth——and the way they make billions sub rosa-—intertwining their vaunted “do-goodism” and public office.

The calculated Clintons have sought to branch out into other business activities. All of that is kept under wraps. Very little is known about the exact nature and financial worth of Bill and Hillary’s non-speech business interests.

Reports keep surfacing indicating the Clintons were party to multi-billion dollar Mideast arms deals....Kazakhstan uranium mines....and Haitian gold mines...Libyan oil deals....telecom businesses, deals w/ financial powerhouses like Teneo, Goldman Sachs.....etc etc etc.

THE CON ARTIST CLINTONS GRABBED EVERYTHNG THAT WASNT NAILED DOWN-—Lucrative business interests were cunningly intertwined w/ the Foundations “do-good” activities....enabled by Hillary’s catbird seat at the State Dept.

At last count, the Clintons apparently raised an astounding $2 billion from their foundation activities and their political campaigns.....

.....does not include monies flowing in from the various lucrative business ventures, interest accrued, safe deposit boxes, real estate assets, passive income on which they pay no taxes, income from Chelseas hubbys hedge fund, monies invested in Goldman Sachs, interest in financial powerhouse Teneo..... etc etc etc.......

The Clintons are worth a bundle.....accumulated in record time. Their livelihood was collected as they marched through American politics.

No, I say what I mean and mean what I say. Your posting style was familiar, which made me think you may have had another screen name.

Again, welcome to FR.

And my "tab skills" and quickness, too, I guess. I get that a lot, however -- my tab skills remind people of other people.

You guys ought to know that newbies' posts are held for some time period by moderators and then released en masse, so their timestamps are likely to be clustered.

I think I would like to politely ask you to pay more attention to what I write, not when it's timestamped. I promise you'll be enriched by doing so.

I'm not a code slinger, but the mods tend to do that

Bush bought 99,000 acres of land in Paraguay...

However, as mentioned in the article...

Erasmo Rodríguez Acosta, the governor of the Alto Paraguay region where Mr Bush's new acquisition supposedly lies, told one Paraguayan news agency there were indications that Mr Bush had bought land in Paso de Patria, near the border with Brazil and Bolivia. He was, however, unable to prove this, he added.

It was a rumor. It remains a rumor.

The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) is a project of the Center for Public Integrity, focused on issues such as "cross-border crime, corruption, and the accountability of power".

In 2013, the consortium had 160 member journalists from 60 countries. The ICIJ brings together teams of international journalists for different investigations (over 80 for Offshore leaks). It organizes the bi-annual Daniel Pearl Awards for Outstanding International Investigative Reporting.

The ICIJ's director since 2011 is Gerard Ryle; other staff members include Michael Hudson, while the Advisory Committee in 2013 includes Bill Kovach, Phillip Knightley, Gwen Lister, and Goenawan Mohamad.

===========================================

WIKI REFERENCE---In 2000, the Clinton administration committed $1.3 billion in foreign aid and up to five hundred military personnel to train local forces. An additional three hundred civilian personnel were allowed to assist in the eradication of coca. This aid was an addition to $330 million of previously approved US aid to Colombia. $818 million was earmarked for 2000, with $256 million for 2001. These appropriations for the plan made Colombia the third largest recipient of foreign aid from the United States at the time.

--SNIP-- As of 2008, the U.S. has provided nearly $1.3 billion to Colombia through Clinton Plan Colombia nonmilitary aid programs:

<><> Alternative Development (2000-2008 cost: $500 million)

<><> Internally Displaced Persons (2000-2008 cost: $247 million)

<><> Demobilization and Reintegration (2000-2008 cost: $44 million)

<><> Democracy and Human Rights (2000-2008 cost: $158 million)

<><> Promote the Rule of Law (2000-2008 cost: $238 million)

LONG READ--REST AT https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plan_Colombia

==============================================

The ICIJ might examine ALL of Clinton-era foreign aide disbursements---and determine if the Clintons have offshore accounts in those countries....or so-called charities setup by the Clinton Foundation..

It seems being President is like being “made” into a crime family. Man this country is in trouble.

Yikes. This little blast from the past really bolsters your point, though it's only dealing with a mayor of a what was once a very major city. But we know how they work together now, don't we? In fact, one could even speculate that it's the mayors who "make" the president.
