Russian and Syrian military have killed terrorists in the search area of the downed Russian Su-24 jet, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Thursday.

"The moment our pilot was in safety the area was heavily bombed by the Russian Air Force and shelled by Syrian government forces artillery," ministry spokesman General-Major Igor Konashenkov told a media briefing.

He stressed that terrorists and other "mysterious groups" were killed in the assault.

The Russian Air Force base in Latakia has been reinforced with an S-400 SAM system, which was deployed on Thursday.

"Now we are going to ensure the safety of our planes fighting against ISIS militants and other terror groups by taking more reliable measures," Konashenkov said.

Meanwhile, Obama’s “Free Syrian Army” is rushing to help AQ and stop the Kurds from cutting off ISIS from the Russian Border.

This is a real mess, and Obama is dropping our troops right in the middle of it.

The best that can be hoped for our guys , if they are not torn apart by the RUAF or SAA shelling, is that Assad’s troops and the IRGC are not into beheading or burning them alive, given the propaganda value of capturing an American soldier operating illegally in Syria in support of terrorist islamists

Interesting story about getting out that Russian pilot
The IRGC General who is one tough bastard who knows the ground in Syria, was able to,put together an extraction team using a very short window of time during which the militants holding the pilot were arguing with the Turks set in to find him... The Turks wanted the Russian pilot alive for blackmail, tthe militants holding him wanted to burn him alive

The Moskva runs a naval version of an S-300 variant, the radars at Latakia were also S-300 variants. The S-400 is new and an addition covering from Jerusalem, to Create, to much of southern Turkey with a reach of 150 miles- depending on what missile is in the tubes.

Be careful of twitter pics - it is the type radar masts that count:

Wonder if they got this guy?

How much is a TOW missile and looked like he was trained to use it. How many millions for that?

... present Russians aren't largely some variety of White Christian. Orthodox church to be sure, and there seems to be little love lost between them and the Protestant/Catholic axis of most of US Christian faith.

I would have to agree with that as a general statement.

I am nowhere near an expert on the degree of Christian representation, or the resolve of that representation, anywhere.

I can make some observations from historical evidence. In background, the Russian Federation does have a higher percentage population of several non Christian minority groups than the US. The Muslim population is about, or slightly over 15%, and exert significantly less influence there than in other nations with a 15% Muslim population, (something to note).

During the about 70 year Communist/Soviet period, the government was adamant in attempting to completely destroy the Orthodox Church, Christianity and religion in the Russias proper. In addition, the Communist learned how to severely control Islam as evidenced by their control of the Balkans (Yugoslavia), while being the rogue of the Soviet proper.

The Russian Orthodox Church survived this period despite being severely limited in activity and property, and much of the Christian legacy infrastructure was preserved. The Church it's self continued with it's traditional teachings.

In the West, the Roman Church slowly but mildly changed toward the liberal with a larger and growing divide between them and other Christians. This, in societies and governments supposedly tolerant of and friendly to Christians and religion.

Currently, the Russian Orthodox Church continues, notably stronger and still very traditional.

My belief is, that in the battle between Communism and the Russian Orthodox Church, the Church won, and in the battle between Communism and Christianity in the hearts of the Russian people, Christianity won.

That is the Christianity that I believe Obama is targeting, he seems to get on fine with the Roman Church and the new Pope, and would support the Pussy Riot sex shows inside the Orthodox Cathedrals by force, if he could.

The Homofascista shills on FR would have you believe that the Russian Orthodox Church survived because they were willingly co-opted by the Communists and they are all KGB plants, but they don't ever talk about the "lack" of Communist influence in the Roman Church in the West. The Homofascista have veracity equal to that of Obama, Clinton, and the Western Main Stream Enemedia.

Comparatively speaking, Communist influence ain't in Russia, anymore.

Wonder if they got this guy?

Don't know, hope so.

As I understand it, the Russian Military rescue helicopter targeted was already forced down by small arms fire that disabled it's hydraulics, and fatally wounded a Russian Marine aboard in his throat.

The crew evacuated the helicopter just after the forced landing (in Syria), and took refuge in a building nearby. I believe the crew was evacuated to the rear with no further casualties.

After an unknown period of time, this terrorist group arrived on high ground and set up the TOW missile, fired and destroyed the abandoned, grounded helicopter, as the TOW will negotiate that kind of target.

Morons.

But then again, Obama chose 'em.

Have you seen this video released by Russia claiming S-400 installation?

Link to the Russian vid on youtube

There is nothing here actually indicating an S-400 installation, but maybe your eyes are sharper. The guy over at Foxtrot Alpha has doubts also.

You are correct, at 0.28, 0.38, and 0.53 the radars are not S-400 systems.

It is true that the Russians post only what they want the rest of the world to see, but, ...

Rope-a-dope?
