On Monday, 24 Senate Democrats urged President Obama to circumvent Congress by using executive action to expand background checks to cover private gun sales.

According to WMDT, the latest two Senators to join the effort to get Obama to go around Congress are Sens. Chris Coon (D-DE) and Tom Carper (D-DE). The Senators want Obama to use executive action to expand background checks to include private gun owners who sell a certain number of guns each year.
Breitbart News previously reported that Obama began talking about this expansion after the October 1 Umpqua Community College attack. NBC News reported that the threshold being weighed for triggering background checks on private gun owners was "50 or 100 guns a year" being sold. But Michael Bloomberg-funded Everytown for Gun Safety is pressing Obama to require a background check for any gun sold if that gun was owned less than a year before being sold -- even if one gun is all that is sold in a calendar year.
This is an insidious way to secure all the new regulations on gun shows that Democrats have pursued, but failed to secure, for nearly two decades. It is also a devious way to take another step toward a national gun registry, which would have to exist for all new gun purchases in order to know whether a private gun owner keeps a firearm for longer than a year before selling it.

If executive orders only apply to the executive branch, how can private citizens be forced to comply?

There was a show on that showed a majority of guns coming in and being used were manufactured in the Philippines. They were made with bogus serial numbers and were not traceable. Needless to say these were not being sold at gun shows.

How do you fight a Government where the other side no longer even holds the separation of powers sacred any longer? What once was something of pride for either side, where even the most liberal of Democrats stood their ground on allowing the Executive to infringe upon their enumerated powers now can be kissed goodbye. Where are living in very dangerous time of imperialism and precedence. 70% of the public is too damn stupid to even see or understand what this is and means.

executive order only applies to federal workers, it does not apply to civilians. If it does, then any law could be done executive order? Want 10% flat tax? Executive order!
He will instruct the BATF (Federal workers) to require background checks on transfers from “dealers” who sell a gun a year.
Who cares. Most private sellers would not comply anyways.

I see the immediate response to this is to put the fear of the NRA into these senate Democrats. That is, for the NRA to quickly create a PAC whose purpose is to challenge these Democrats in the next Democrat primary, offering to support pro-gun liberty Democrats against them.
And, if there is no pro-gun liberty Democrat willing to challenge them in the primary, then the money instead goes to a pro-gun Republican willing to challenge them.
Importantly, this PAC is not meant to be an exclusively NRA PAC, but designed so that other gun liberty and conservative organizations can join with it as well.
These Democrats are sniveling cowards, so whither under pressure, if applied early and consistently. And it will also send a message to other Democrats to avoid gun control as an issue, as it is a loser.
