Washington Post: How anti-immigrant attitudes are fueling support for Donald Trump
Washington Post ^ | 11/25/2015 | By Michael Tesler

Political commentators have asserted for months that Donald Trump’s dominance of the Republican presidential field is fueled by his anti-immigrant rhetoric. As Thomas Edsall put it:

Donald Trump's success is no surprise. The public and the press have focused on his defiant rejection of mannerly rhetoric, his putting into words of what others think privately. But the more important truth is that a half-century of Republican policies on race and immigration have made the party the home of an often angry and resentful white constituency -- a constituency that is now politically mobilized in the face of demographic upheaval.

This is a very plausible hypothesis, but one with little comprehensive evidence to date. Now, thanks to a collection of survey data from YouGov, we can show how, and how much, voters' concern about immigration has helped Trump.

The YouGov data includes 14 surveys that were conducted every week or every other week between June 13 and Nov. 9. In these surveys, the most frequent question about immigration asks respondents to rate the issue's importance.

Republicans clearly agree that the issue of immigration is important: around 60 percent consistently say it is "very important." And believing that immigration is important is correlated with more conservative views on immigration. Among Republicans, those who believe immigration is very important are much more opposed to immigration policies like a path to citizenship -- according to data in the Nov. 5-9 YouGov poll.

So if Trump's appeal is partly about his conservative stands on immigration, his support should be particularly strong among Republicans who say that immigration is important.

What, the Compost omitting the word “illegal” from the phrase “anti-illegal immigrant” again? Say it isn’t so.

RACIST RHETORIC BIG PART OF GOP STRATEGY

UNNAMED GOP STRATEGIST: TOMORROW’S AMERICA “WHITES ONLY.”

Trump has a monster edge in this area. This migration will not stop and only ugly crap will happen. Forces are in place that can’t be changed over night. Anything can happen and 75% will be bad.

“fueled by his anti-immigrant rhetoric”

Saw that in the very first sentence and stopped reading right there. There guys cannot say illegal or radical Islam. It is not in their vocabulary.

The citizens are fed up with the Cheap Labor Express importing workers for the jobs that can’t be exported.

We’re doubly fed up with feckless crapweasels pretending to represent us when in fact they are working against us.

Last year the voters of my district Cantorized our weasel before he could betray the country sneaking Rubio’s amnesty bill through the House.

We MUST elect a President to restore the rule of law.

It is our country.

We do not have to give it away.

I am not anti immigrant. My father, stepfather, aunt, great aunt, step uncle and most of the people I grew up around were immigrants from Eastern Europe. Those who risked their lives to come to American, worked hard, became citizens and proud Americans. I love immigrants.

I am, however, against illegal immigrants and those who come here under false pretenses to kill us.

They aren’t legal or illegal “immigrants” anymore, Mikey. The new radical DemocRATS have issued talking points that the refujihadis should only be referred to as “refugees” and “asylees”. The DemocRATS have turned America into the “refugee” camp of the world. The America that used to be our home. The next ‘RAT who tells me that we have to “fight” poverty in this country is going to get a free knuckle sandwich. You can’t “fight” poverty if you are importing it into the country by the millions every day.

So if a person is in favor of legal immigration, but opposes illegal immigration, he is an "anti-immigrant" bigot.

Rot in hell, Washington Post.

‘”They aren’t legal or illegal “immigrants” anymore, Mikey. The new radical DemocRATS have issued talking points that the refujihadis should only be referred to as “refugees” and “asylees”. “

And the Dems are wrong. Each of those three words has a different meaning.

There is to much immigration period. We need to stop all immigration for about 40 years to sort out this mess. If that make me a racist then so be it. I think it makes me an American patriot.
