Happy Thanksgiving to you all. May there be many blessings in each day.

What are your Thanksgiving plans?

I am working and will probably have dinner at work.

Tried to find a Chinese or Indian restaurant that would be open tomorrow, but they are all closed.

Hope to find you all well and with your families and loved ones and friends and with lots of pumpkin pie!

To eat while we can still afford to.

Just the two of us this Thanksgiving. Been a very hectic fall. Roast turkey and dresssing, gravy, twice-baked sweet potatoes, smothered green beans with ham and onions, corn casserole, fresh sliced tomatoes and mince pie.

And lots of football and giving thanks.

Sounds wonderful. Some of my sweetest thanksgivings were with the beloved.

We got enough. This is Appalachia. We got turkeys in the yard and Panthers on the TV.

Well, we started off with a bang. They voted to eat dessert tonight because they will be too full tomorrow to enjoy it. They are watching football and eating pie.

Sounds very much like Thanksgiving Day prep at our house while growing up. The first job little kids were assigned was stuffing dates with nougat. Older kids moved up to assembling the relish tray. My job was to set the dinner table the evening before. China, sterling flatware, silver serving dishes polished and gleaming. Mom always had a centerpiece of a compote of fresh fruit. Thanksgiving dinner was a formal, happy dinner. I loved it. Yummy food, beautifully set table.

...and everything is better with vodka...

Well, not quite. Hansen's 100% Juice Fruit Punch doesn't go that well with vodka. But....it's palatable.

Thanksgiving this year got changed at the last minute. I usually get up and turn on the Macy's parade and watch it with the kids. As soon as Santa makes his appearance at the end of the parade, that's when I get to work on dinner. I was going to cook everything for our family this year, as usual. However, my sister-in-law invited our family over to join with theirs. I wasn't thrilled at the idea at first, but I guess it might be fun. It'll eliminate about half the cooking I'll have to do, so there's a plus. Not to mention...my sis-in-law, her hubby, and all their kids are pretty much all conservatives, so even if politics gets discussed, we'll likely all be in agreement.

I miss my Gram as well. That woman could COOK. Her turkeys were always letter-perfect. Everything on the table was delectable....except for the ONE thing I couldn’t stand: tomato aspic. For those unfamiliar with it, it’s basically tomato-flavored Jell-O in a mold. Utterly disgusting. Only once was I forced to try some. Never again.

I am a trained chef. I have a degree in Culinary Arts. Even so....I cannot make a gravy that could match my Grandma’s. What I wouldn’t give to stand over her shoulder and watch how she did it.

When I see her in Heaven, I’ll ask.

I forgot that we did set the dining room table with china, silver and crystal during that Wednesday afternoon, did the same with my own children.
