NEW YORK (AP) - U.S. abortions continue to fall, according to a new federal report released Wednesday.
Federal statistics show abortions have been in a general decline for about 25 years.
The number of reported abortions dropped 4 percent in 2012, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported. About 699,000 abortions were reported to the federal government that year. That's about 31,000 fewer than the year before.
...
...Declines were seen in states that have passed anti-abortion laws as well as in more liberal states.

Ping.
Aging population?
That is probably not reflective of what is really happening. Federal abortion statistics have been based only on what is voluntarily reported. They do not include all abortions.
That being said there appears to have been a decline in abortions in the last 15 years. The prolife movement has been successful and the attitudes of young people are changing.
The biggest supporters of abortion are now middle aged and older liberal Democrats.
Is this including the “morning after pill” or no?
Not so good I think.
In 2012 birth numbers were still on a down trend, so as a % of viable pregnancies it may not look so good.
It is, but in a different context, abortions still killed nearly 700 THOUSAND people that year. I rejoice in the 29 thousand lives that were saved, but how can anyone not be appalled at this genocide?
That 700 THOUSAND is half the population of Jacksonville, Florida and its suburbs.
Think of the outcry if nearly 3 THOUSAND loaded passenger jets crashed every year? 7 to 8 airplane crashes every DAY!
That's what we're talking about, people - lives, every one of them.
Global warming?
The morning after pill is not RU-486. It is not an abortificant. It is not very effective at all because all it does is delay ovulation.
Honestly, I thought that abortion rates would go UP because of the ineffectiveness of this pill. It’s very unreliable and people who depend on it have a higher chance of having an unplanned pregnancy.
The abortion rates have been declining steadily for a long time now. IMHO, it’s because of ultrasounds and the internet.
Back in my day, we were told that ‘it’s nothing more than a blob of tissue’. Now we can see videos of babies moving about (clearly) right in our own homes. The younger generation grew up with these images, so it’s not so easy to sweep the truth under the rug.
