Seems the Russians are upping the anti by moving in S-400 batteries and bringing the missile cruiser 'Moskva' close to Syria (S-300PMU / SA-N-6 SA-10 GRUMBLE from 8 B-303A VLS underdeck drum launcher systems), and meanwhile the 'Truman' is en-route to the Med ...

With these moves, Russia now controls all of eastern Syrian airspace, much of southern Turkey, and most or all of Israeli airspace, creating a de facto Russian no-fly zone.

Wow! Now I have a real lighted perspective on what I should think!

Funny picture, but what I said still stands. One is that Russia is not as strong as it would like others to think, second NATO as a whole is quite powerful, and finally Turkey believes enough that the NATO blanket protects it enough that it is willing to shoot down a Russian plane. As for Putin’s response - he will bring forward some SAMs, he will have fighter escorts for all attack flights, and he will probably bomb the Turkmen ...but that is it. Russia cannot do any more, and that is not me with my head up my behind. We will see what will happen in the next few weeks, but I am quite certain Russia will do nothing.

I respectfully disagree. Russia will not only gather the resources, but will not finish punishing the enemy until it’s satisfied. Turkey made a very serious stupid mistake. Zippy is also.

“I suspect it will be option 1. “

Russia has been running an anti-Chechen terrorist operation inside Turkey since at least the Chechen war. Turkey provides the Chechens with bases and probably money and logistics. Russia is in a position to damage Turkey economically, which will further weaken the already shaky government. All Russia has to do is use the Kurds to start a terror campaign inside Turkey and the tourist industry will collapse. We already know it costs much less to terrorize than it costs to defend. Russia could break the bank, so to speak.

I don’t think Russia will totally destabilize Turkey as Putin isn’t an idiot. But he could hurt them with reltativly little investment.

Option 4

Use friends in low places to damage Erdogan where it hurts: his bank account and those of his corrupt family

Glad he was rescued. Killing parachuting pilots and murdering them on the ground violates every aspect of international law. This soldier is happy for him.

I saw that video yesterday and thought it was odd too. It didn’t look like it was filmed in the moment. It looked like a production. They clearly had their shots planned. The guy fires the TOW and the camera stays on him rather than swinging over to look at the impact. But then they cut to a shot of the impact. My guess is that it’s actually two events spliced together. The first is some guys setting up a TOW missile, somewhat leisurely because they’re not in a battle situation. They’re mainly just demonstrating their training. Then there’s the shot of the helicopter getting hit which happened at some other time, although it seems doubtful it’s the rescue helicopter from the shoot down.

Arming the anti Turk Kurds would be a relatively inexepensive start, and encourage the Kurds to cut out Kurdistan with defined borders, which could be defended by Kurds and helped with Russian air support would become a problem for Turkey. -Tom

The Russians could also equip and fund the PKK. Much as they did the North Vietnamese and the North Koreans against the US.
