Bromance on the Rocks: Surging Ted Cruz Begins to Poke Donald Trump

Ted Cruz's moment has arrived.

Less than 10 weeks before Iowa voters their cast the first votes of the presidential campaign season in Feb. 1 caucuses, a new Quinnipiac poll shows the Texas senator statistically tied with Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump for the lead in the state. Perhaps not so coincidentally, Cruz is tentatively beginning to take on the brash New York billionaire after months of cozying up.

Twice in recent days, the Texan has seized opportunities to distance himself from Trump's policies and rhetoric. First, Cruz disagreed with Trump after the New Yorker expressed openness to setting up a registry of Muslim Americans in the wake of the Paris terrorist attacks. "I'm a big fan of Donald Trump's but I'm not a fan of government registries of American citizens," Cruz told reporters in Iowa, according to Politico. "The First Amendment protects religious liberty, I've spent the past several decades defending religious liberty."

Then over the weekend, he politely chided inflammatory rhetoric from fellow Republicans on immigration, when asked about Trump during an interview with the Associated Press. "Tone matters," Cruz said. "Are there some in the Republican Party whose rhetoric is unhelpful with regard to immigration? Yes." Cruz's campaign said to expect more distinctions to come.

Are you sure the Immigration poke isn’t against Rubio? Tonight on Angry Bleach Blonde File, Ted laid into Rubio per a different thread here. Don’t watch Angry Bleach Blonde File, so I am relying on the thread

Hope so, because if Ted wasn’t chiding Rubio and instead was chiding Trump, it’s just so uninspiring and deflating.

“Tone matters,” Cruz said. “Are there some in the Republican Party whose rhetoric is unhelpful with regard to immigration? Yes.”

Yes, because every politician who has ever had financed campaigns has failed to win. Pure idiocy.

lol! I avoid maggot kelly, too.

But, yes, that would make sense. I just hope Ted knows that his statement can be interpreted as a dig against his friend Trump.

Actually, “TONE” does matter...which is one reason WHY so many people really support Trump;; he’s the ONLY one who sounds like a real leader and a patriot! And he sounds like a “real” person; not a lawyer, not some “folksy” downhome , escapee from Mayberry, not a politician, and not a preacher.

I really, really like Cruz!

But he needs to run as Trump’s VP!

Trump has a better shot at winning the general and Trump’s money is needed to fight this battle.... Cruz would be running on donor’s cash and would be beholden... :-(

If Cruz is Trump’s VP I feel confident he will someday be president. It’s his best shot IMO and this election is too important... we must not lose!

We’ll see how that plays out. I’ve read the excuses and my opinion has not changed, Cruz wanted donations and the CoC and CFG wanted TPP and the Iran deal. They all got what they wanted, but it killed any chance Cruz had to be elected POTUS.

Trump has no record of positions or votes. We must take his word.

Some criticize Ted Cruz on TPA which shows they do not understand TPA and TPP. It is confusing but I have added a link which explains both.

http://www.examiner.com/article/ted-cruz-is-right-on-the-trade-deal

He made it very clear months ago that when he found out what was in TPP he would determine if he should support it. When they finally released it and he did read it, he indicated he could not support it as written. He has clearly said he will not vote for it.

‘If Trump starts hitting Cruz on his corker bill and TPA votes.’

That’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Cruz is/was in favor of the expansion of H-1B visas.

Remember this?

“Trump has no record of positions or votes. We must take his word.”

Is the word of someone who hobnobbed with the Clintons truly worth anything?

Differing on policy is not “going after” someone IMO. They differ on policy.

Trump did go after Cruz months ago on his Canadian birth. Cruz didn’t react in kind.

Right, because voting for 6000 page bills that no one is allowed to read always works out so well. Sometimes things are just as they seem, and I for one believe this is one of those times.

That isn’t true. FR has the most diverse of all the forums.

Admit it.
