Two DHL packages containing explosive materials were found by security officials at the Cairo International Airport Tuesday.
Reports say the packages were making their way to the United States through London.
Ahram.org reports: The source at the airport said that the parcels, weighting about 10kg, were going through security procedures when the explosive substances were detected by the X-Ray scans.
The two parcels underwent further examinations which confirmed the existence of explosives.
The official said that the parcels have been put under heavy security until authorities can identify their owners.

This article can't possibly be true ... cause the government has thoroughly screened all the Muzzie refugees and they are only letting in the peaceful ones!
Aw come on. This has nothing to do with Islam!
The owners of the shipment can be found at the address they were shipping to!
Sounds like parcels for delivery to an address in the US. They should have delivered them to see who picked them up.
Instead they notify the media so the recipients have plenty of warning and can get away.
Why the big fuss? Probably just clock making supplies. Nothing to see here...
Some jihadi in the US eagerly awaiting his package.
It's possible they were never intended to be delivered, just picked up by baggage handlers here in the US.
BRILLIANT!
the packages were in the DHL system.
Probably sent to an innocent person’s address. Crooks send packages to addresses where they have determined the owner won’t be home at the time of delivery. Instead, they meet the package and take it with them. The homeowner never knows the package was delivered.
Actually, why are they even publicizing this until the entire thing has been investigated including the sent to addresses in the US.?
And I'm surprised that means to detect the shipment of explosives by these common carriers weren't implemented years ago. The more I think about it, the stranger this story seems.
Either to blow up the plane, the airport or to whomever they were addressed. Lots of possibilities. Wonder if they were to be delivered to individuals, made up addresses or to a large building.
I’ll wait and see - but I’m guessing the packages are more likely to be bombs than just shipping explosives. I would imagine it is easier to find explosives somewhere in the U.S. than to ship them if from overseas.
Although perhaps he found a great deal on EBay?
Most likely just some Ramadan or New Year’s Eve fireworks. /s
maybe the package was scheduled to detonate while in the air?
We had an instance involving a quick pickup but with a few more steps.
The package showed up as I was home early and I brought it in. It had my wife’s name on it so I didn’t bother with it even though it was from a reputable technology retailer but it was a small light box.
It was a Go Pro 4K that she was charged for. There were several pickup attempts by FedEx that we didn’t ask for. It was for the Go Pro. The label even had it printed in the corner.
We got the ID fraud with the retailer straightened out and refunded. FedEx finally stopped.
Apparently the delivery point on the other end which was a residential home in Miami was being used in a similar way, intercept and walk away and the resident knowing no better.
The person at the other address had been calling and complaining too to the retailer’s fraud person. It might have been an act but who knows.
“Instead they notify the media so the recipients have plenty of warning and can get away.”
Precisely what I was thinking. Sounds like something Obama would do by giving them warning.
