How Long Did It Take John Bel Edwards To Break His First Campaign Promise?
The Hayride ^ | November 24, 2015 | Kevin Boyd

Posted on 11/24/2015 2:42:52 PM PST by abb

The answer is less than 24 hours after he was elected.

John Bel Edwards tried to run an issue free campaign for governor. Instead, he made the election about David Vitter’s character. While he was busy destroying a good man, Edwards didn’t really go into his vision for Louisiana.

Despite his best efforts though, he made some promises to the state. One of them was to hold two special sessions this coming year to deal with structural budget crisis the state is in.

Here’s John Bel Edwards making the case via some questions posed on social media.

Plans or priorities for addressing Louisiana’s current and projected deficit Edwards: He will call two special sessions in February. All tax exemptions will be up for review. Savings will be reallocated to health care and higher education.

Here’s the Lake Charles American Press writeup of John Bel Edwards’s financial plans:

—Calling two special sessions, one to focus on immediate budget gaps and another to work on the state’s tax structure.

Here’s John Bel himself talking about the promise on “Acadiana’s Morning News” radio program:

The West Point graduate says one this is for sure, if he is elected Governor of Louisiana, he will call two special legislative sessions, one to deal with this fiscal year’s $400 million dollar budget shortfall, and a second one to tackle next fiscal year’s projected budget shortfall of about $1 billion dollars.

Fast forward to Sunday when he was rolling out his hacktastic transitition team. After he got done rolling out his team, he addressed the issue of special sessions. Here’s what Mr. West Point Honor Code told his adoring fans in the Louisiana press:

As he did during the campaign, Edwards said he would call the Legislature into special session in February; he also ruled out calling a second special session to deal with the mid-year budget shortfalls because of the action the joint budget committee took to close the state’s nearly $500 million shortfall on Friday.

So it seems John Bel Edwards is going to allow the Jindal Administration to play its card tricks to close the $500 million shortfall. Not only does this make him a liar, but it makes him an accomplice to the Jindal budget.

If it takes Edwards less than 24 hours to break his first promise on how he would deal with the state budget, what makes anyone believe they can trust him to keep his other promises such as that he won’t raise taxes?

When Democrats break campaign promises, the MSM cheers. Caroline Kennedy gives Profile in Courage awards.

When Republicans break campaign promises, the MSM goes ballistic, wall-to-wall outrage.

John Barack Edwards - already in action!

I dread what will happen to my state over the next 4 years under this idiot.

While he was busy destroying a good man,

Vitter destroyed himself by consorting with whores.

“Vitter destroyed himself by consorting with whores.”

Better than consorting with Obama.

You cannot be a Christian and be a democrat.

You cannot be moral and be a democrat

Better whore-monger Republican than democrat that is chaste.

John Bel Edwards is an agent of Satan who got into office by focusing on the sins of a sinner. But we are all sinners.

Nothing good will come out of his governorship.

Democrats do a better job than Republicans in character assassination. When will it end?

What do the people of Louisiana expect of an Edwards?
Aside from more felony convictions...

I’ve got news for you: LA has a laissez-faire attitude on peccadilloes (so long as they’re not dead girl/live boy sort as Fast Eddie Edwards pointed out), so Vitter’s long-ago past indiscretion (already well known when he ran for Senator) had minimal impact. The state voted twice for Clinton despite his behavior.

When the incumbent party Governor has high disapprovals (Jindals were over 60% negative), that spreads to the same-party nominee. In almost every instance when that occurs, the incumbent party loses.

Had Jindal high approvals, Vitter would have handily won. Also keep in mind the RINO Establishment hates Vitter and tried to sandbag him from two directions, and add to that that of the two RINOs, Dardenne endorsed Edwards and Angelle gave the OK for his supporters and $$ people to back Edwards. This was a world-class RINO screw-over.

Vitter should have never tried to run for Governor and the Republicans of the state should not have allowed him to get into a runoff as a candidate against the Democrat.

Hopefully the voters of LA. will get the Governor they deserve. I hope he puts it on them good. And as for how long it took him to break his first promise, I would say one second.

“Allowed?” Just how does one go about “not allowing” someone the right to run for office in the United States of America? Anyone can run for office, even you or I, if the qualifications are met.

Vitter, twice, won statewide elections for Senator.

You believe too much of what you read in the New York Times and Washington Post.

Nope. When that happens, the entire team wins. The Dems solidly lost the other races.

There was significant rejection of Vitter by the other two Republicans.

Dardenne went full turn coat.

So did Sheriff Normand of Jefferson - who is now on the transition team.

There were a number of key media character attacks by the usual media character assassination squad that retained the issue.

First order of business is apparently a special session for higher taxes and medic aide expansion.

The Democrats, media, unions, RINO Establishment wanted Vitter destroyed. Jindal didn’t want him to win, either. Having a Conservative reformist continue to end the century+ culture of Democrat corruption could not be brooked. I’ve seen this same dog and pony show before in my state with Democrats and their RINO bed buddies teaming up to take down Conservatives. Hell, we see this all the time.

It’s really comical though that some 200,000 “Republicans” trusted this second Edwards.
