Columbus, Ohio (CNN)Donald Trump said Monday that he witnessed people jumping out of the Twin Towers on 9/11 from the view in his apartment.
"Many people jumped and I witnessed it, I watched that. I have a view -- a view in my apartment that was specifically aimed at the World Trade Center," Trump said Monday during a rally in Columbus, Ohio.
"And I watched those people jump and I watched the second plane hit ... I saw the second plane hit the building and I said, 'Wow that's unbelievable,'" Trump continued.
At least 200 people are believed to have jumped from the Twin Towers after planes struck the towers in an attack that claimed more than 2,600 lives.
The Republican presidential contender lives in Trump Tower in midtown Manhattan, more than four miles away from where the World Trade Center towers once stood. Trump has lived in the 5th Avenue tower since before the attacks, according to media reports pre-dating 9/11.
The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment asking how Trump witnessed people jumping out of the Twin Towers from more than four miles away.
Trump on Monday also dug into his claim that Muslims in New Jersey celebrated the terrorist attacks on 9/11, a claim that has been widely debunked by multiple fact-checkers.

9/11 was pre-youtube (created in 2005). If there is a news reel, it is in some dusty media archive.

It says its 4 miles. If Trump had good field glasses he could see it.
Easily with a telescope; which many people in high rises have.
Combined with TV coverage showing the same; it would all blur together.
Its not debatable that people were jumping; I cant see why this is controversial?
Clear skies, 4 miles is not that far.
Enjoy your special granddaughter this week. My son was 4 on 9/11 and when he crawled into bed with his crying mama, I told him he would remember this his whole life, and indeed he has.

I enjoyed the years that had “matching” dates, one each year, in the 0s. 01/01/01, 02/02/02, etc. After 12/12/12 we were done and will be for a long time. Now to get symmetry we have only January as in 1/6/16 but it’s not the same.
I’m just glad we have a candidate out there who dares to remind the world of 9/11.
I used to work on the 34th floor at One Penn Plaza, about 3/4 the distance between the former World Trade Center and Trump Tower, closer to the latter. The Towers might as well have been across the street from our office, they seemed so close. In fact, most of what was shown on network TV following the 9/11 attacks could well have been filmed at my old office.
For Trump to have seen this from his tower apt, much higher than my office, is not at all a stretch. And, one would assume, his apt. is well equipped with binoculars and likely a fantastic telescope. The view from his apt. has to be beyond spectacular... can likely see well into NJ and possibly PA.

Seeing people at four miles with clear skies above in not hard.
Movement is what you see, and you can discern human form from debris waffling down.
He saw it with his own eyes, just not able to describe the person (man/woman, black/white, etc).
I’m looking at google maps and I’d say the distance is less then 4 miles. You can read a newspaper head line at that distance with a decent telescope. Trump could have easily seen people jumping with a pair of binoculars. And who doesn’t keep a pair of binoculars handy?

hillary took shrapnel in Bosnia, or something like that. Her hubby raped six women. a bunch of people dead, like the guy in jail who died because they couldn’t find his pills, which were in his shirt pocket!!!

OK CNN, we’ve heard enough about Trump, when is Hillary going to get the same scrutiny over anything she says?
I don’t if Mr. Trump could afford them, but a 10 power binocular would put you at 2100 feet - less than a half a mile.
Gulf War I, being in the desert under clear blue skies, I could see from my position Iraqi forces massing in the distance. . .well over 5 miles away. Could see individual movement.
You eye catches movement and while he likely could not “see” the individual person, he did see movement (dropping) of the bodies as they jumped.
I remember the muslims cheering. They cheered all around the world.
I read a book a couple months ago about an American or Canadian nurse working in Saudi Arabia on 9/11. She said there was much celebrating and cheering in the streets. She came home shortly after that.
