Russia jet SHOT DOWN: Turkey to face 'consequences' as Putin calls act 'stab in back'

TURKISH warplanes have shot down a Russian jet which they claim flew into the country's airspace. The aircraft was shot down after it was warned 10 times in five minutes to leave Turkish airspace, a Turkish military official has said.

It was just over the Syrian border in Turkey when it was downed by F16 Fighting Falcon jets belonging to Turkey, the official added.

But Russian President Vladimir Putin said the plane was 4km into Syria and had not violated Turkey's airspace as it flew at an altitude of 6,000 metres - and claimed it was shot down from the ground not the air.

NATO has announced it will be holding an extraordinary session at 4pm GMT after Turkey requested it following the incident.

Syria has been sending terrorists into Turkey for decades, and Turkey has been conducting its own operations into Syria as well. Russia is fully responsible for causing this incident, because Russia and the Russian warplane could have complied with international law by turning on its transponder, giving a proper response to the challenges, even if it had some reason to continue forward in a violation of Turkish airspace. It also has to be noted that Russian warplanes have been violating the rules of engagement ever since the last such incident in October, where the Russian aircraft used their weapons’ radar systems to lock-on to the Turkish air defense aircraft as if they were about to fire on them well inside Turkish airspace. These were clear threats intended to intimidate Turkish air defense fighters operating well within their onw airspace above Turkey. If Russia wants to make war, this is the way to do it. If Russia does not want to make war on turkey, they know what they can do to avoid being shot down as they enter Turkish airspace. All the rest is simply pseudo drama.

That is likely Putin’s move.

Arm the Kurds. Recognize their independence if they declare it.

Straighten ties to Greece (already done) and Bulgaria, and form a ring around Turkey.

A big war is not in Putin’s interest. He seems to like the slow choke method with countries that are larger than a breadbox.

Turkey was entirely within its rights to shoot down the apparently hostile and unresponsive warplane.

If it was shot down over Turkish airspace, yes. But if it was shot after it had left Turkish airspace, and was merely a flyover, shooting it down was an illegal overreaction, so, no. That's like shooting a trespasser in the back after he fled your property without doing any damage. That appears as if it may have been the case.

Turkey called his bluff.

Well, the rubber is now hitting the road, so we're about to find out how well that's going to work out for the Turks and NATO.

Yes, I think Erdogan’s long-term goals would be well served by a US-Russia war fought on European territory.

Putin and Russia are not prepared to engage in a general war.

Which is exactly the same thing they said about Russian intervention in Syria, but yet, here we are.

Something tells me that the Kurds will enjoy an early Christmas.

Toys will be given. Turkey will be stuffed. Bells will be rung.

” But if it was shot after it had left Turkish airspace,”

The radar track appears to indicate the Russian SU-24 was hit while over the Turkish territory and fell a considerable distance along its flight path into Syrian territory, where it crashed. The F-16 aircraft attacking the intruding SU-24 were far inside Turkey when the attack took place.

We don’t know the facts here
Putin is not fighting stupidly nor is his fight with NATO
Methinks Erdogan has been itching to look like a victim here
Imagine Tukey of all nations, the Govt complicit in sheltering training aming and abetting iS and sending hundreds of thousands of lawless muslim invaders to Europe in just the past 2 months alone - the merciless attackers of Kurdistan — claiming border sanctity?

You willing to send Americans to die for Erdogan’s borders?
Hello? John McCain? Wasn’t your plan hatched with Ukraine to have Russians down an American plane then Americans down a Russian plane, then kick off WW3.

Methinks Erdogan jumped the shark here ... I just hope to God our special forces were not involved.
