“”””The area is mainly populated by Turkmens - Syrians citizens, but ethnic Turks - and is the target of a current Syrian government offensive, where President Bashar al-Assad’s ground troops are supported by Russian airstrikes””””

Bingo.

I cannot believe Erdogan is so stupid. He must know that there will be severe consequences to this.

If I were Putin. I would launch an intermediate range ballistic missile right over turkey with a low kiloton nuclear warhead exploding over Raqqa.

The next phone call I would make is to notify the country of turkey look the next nuclear missile may have a malfunction if they persist.

Boris will be pissed, how much do the muzzies really want to poke the Bear?

Unlike Obama, Putin will do a lot more than just send them a strongly worded letter.

I think he is probably counting on it, his dreams of a cross border group of muzzies is fading.

For all their vaunted prowess, the only reason the Soviets beat the Nazis was that Hitler was an ass, fighting on two fronts and attempting to be his own General, and the fact that they simply threw bodies and materiel into the fray, heedless of cost or human life.

"Why do ppl side with Turkey and ISIS on here?"

It is hard to believe some folks here side with zero and the terrorists. I'm with Putin on this fight.

“We still have a big AF base as Incirlik, and supposedly just moved half a dozen F-22s there’

Uh-oh. We’d better move them, they are REALLY freaking expensive. And irreplaceable.

I’m referring to the whole incident from start to finish. The loss of the helicopter was just the latest debacle. I think it’s pretty much conceded that the Russian jet had violated Turkey’s airspace.

The same people that sided with the rape of Libya, since it was a NATO op. They support Obama, Hillary, the Muslim brotherhood, ISIS, etc.

Because FR has a contingent of liberals that for some reason avoid lightning.

I’d say that they won ALSO due to the ingeniousness and industriousness of their people when their backs were up against the wall, producing “good enough” weaponry in mass quantities under hellish conditions. Stalin supposedly said words to the effect that quantity has a quality of its own. In the meantime, the Germans kept making increasingly complex and sophisticated weaponry, at great expense with little effect. There’s a lesson to be learned in there somewhere...

Comparing this map with Google Maps for scale the Russian jet flew across a section of Turkish airspace about a mile wide. Assuming two passes at 300 miles an hour that means that they were over Turkish airspace for about 24 seconds- and 300 MPH is slow for an attack jet with a top speed of over 800 knots.

Something about the Turkish story just doesn't add up, like who's airspace was the Falcon in when he engaged the Fencer? Were the Turks flying top cover for the Turkmen rebels?

Maybe some former Air Force guys can weigh in on how long it takes to line up on a target, get tone on a sidewinder and shoot. Looks like this had to go down pretty quick.

...after all, climate change is the source of all of these problems.
