For all their military might, the Russians really come off looking like incompetent idiots sometimes.

Russians lost no planes or helicopters until they were attacked by a NATO member - on the eve of France meeting with Obama and Putin to try and broker a deal that maybe Turkey and some in the CIA don't want.

Why do ppl side with Turkey and ISIS on here? Russia are our allies against ISIS. Hindering Russia = hindering our objective to destroy ISIS

Because they are either Muslims themselves or have an ethnic hatred of Russians because they are Baltics or some such. There maybe a few McCain supporters in that mix as well. They rather be in bed with ISIS if it means Russia loses.

First of all, you don't know anything about whether Russia has lost any aircraft over there in recent weeks.

In this particular case, Russia lost the aircraft after it violated Turkey's airspace ... after Turkey had warned Russia repeatedly about these incursions since early October.

“The Bible. They killed people who couldn’t recite something from their garbage book.”

Their book is the Quran. The Quran was written after their pig prophet started killing people.

He plagerized stuff from the Torah, the Bible (Old Testament), and other writings to make his book.

I have no idea what bible you are talking about.

If that is the case Greece should shoot down the Turkish jets that violate her airspace on a daily basis. And I would have to be inclined to think the Muslim Turks are not liars - and they are.

The problem is who will fill the gap? Russia could end up in control of Syria, Turkey and more of the ME. The world will respect them and we will become just another irrelevant, third world country.

Obama will hold a presser announcing, “Mission Accomplished!”

They believe differently and will kill millions to prove you’re wrong.

There have been Caliphates before and yes they always fall. From internal strife caused by corruption and the general disorganization their culture is known for.

If the plane crossed Turkish airspace it was the most remote part.

They could have waited and it would have been gone soon. The fact that Turkey shot it down says they are looking for a fight. The will get one now.

For one thing, I doubt Greece is even capable of bringing down a paper airplane.

Secondly, the Turkish planes aren't flying over an active war zone.

Thirdly, I'd have no problem if Greece decided to take it upon themselves to shoot down any Turkish aircraft that violate its airspace.

Shaun Walker reports more sabre-rattling in Moscow.

Writing on Twitter Alexei Pushkov, the head of the Russian parliament’s international relations committee, said: “Ankara clearly did not weigh the consequences of its hostile acts for Turkey’s interests and economy. The consequences will be very serious.”

If the strike is confirmed, the TOW missile was most likely supplied through the same US and Turkey-backed logistics programme that has reportedly been supplying Alwiya al-Ashar.
The rebels’ usage of these American-made TOW missiles has increased over 800 per cent since Russia began air strikes against them at the end of September, slowing regime offensives across the country by destroying dozens of tanks and other armoured vehicles.

Turkish planes aren't flying over an active war zone.

Turkish planes have been violating Syria's airspace for a long time attacking Kurds. Let's see the try that after today.

I did not say Greece should - it shows the protocol for such incursions is not to shoot but to escort. Secondly, the war zone is against rebels - and that includes ISIS that are to the last man Islamist jihadi in ideology. The Turks are hindering the destruction of jihadis.

Keep in mind that the NATO agreement has loopholes. I think one of them is that a member can’t provoke a fight, then activate the mutual defense clause when they get hit back.

Also recall that in 1982 there was a lot of disagreement about whether the UK could invoke NATO over the Falklands. Not a perfect analogy, especially since Thatcher decided not to invoke (accepting under the table assistance instead), but pretty close.

Even if Turkey invokes NATO it doesn’t mean they get to lead a war against Russia. The most likely outcome would be us moving anti-aircraft missile batteries and fighters into Turkey and telling the Russians to back off.

I cannot believe Erdogan is so stupid. He must know that there will be severe consequences to this.

Nope. Putin is probing. Now that he found the limits he will back off. Will be the same as in Ukraine when the EU blew a gasket after Russian forces carpet bombed Mariupol with rocket artillery. Russia never did that again because Putin learned it was not in his interests to do that. Same will happen here. There won’t be any more provocative violations of Turkish air space by Russia.

Has Obama checked out? This Turk vs Russian exchange was a possibility which can end in a nuclear war - sleepwalking into a world war is as possible now as it was in 1914 - maybe even more so with nukes.

As soon as Russia showed up in Syria a president who was not a diplomatic idiot with an idiotic state dept would have initiated the end to Syrian hostilities - or been on the ball enough to prevent Russia getting involved in the first place.
