They did have a sort of charm to 'em.

I'm old enough to have started with the big 8-inch ones. Bought two Shugart drives ($400 each) and hand-built a floppy controller for my homebrew 6809 computer so I could read and write the diskettes. Man they were slow, but at the time it was so much better than cassette tapes...

The ones that whistled as the drive spun. Remember well, though I was just a high school frosh.

Good Times. Boeing made the 757 with those damned things.
