N.Y. farm appeals $13,000 fine for refusing lesbian couple's wedding

Albany, N.Y. - The owners of an upstate New York wedding venue who were fined $13,000 after refusing to host a lesbian wedding are appealing the ruling.

The owners of Liberty Ridge Farm north of Albany refused to host the 2013 wedding of Melisa and Jennie McCarthy, citing their Christian beliefs that marriage is between a man and a woman. The state's Division of Human Rights ruled that business owned by Robert and Cynthia Gifford violated New York's anti-discrimination law.

"The policy to not allow same-sex marriage ceremonies on Liberty Ridge Farm is a denial of access to a place of public accommodation," Judge Migdalia Pares wrote in her decision in August 2014.

Pares fined Liberty Ridge Farm $10,000 for violating the state's non-discrimination law, and ordered Gifford to pay an additional $3,000 to the couple for "mental anguish each suffered as a result of respondents' unlawfully discriminatory conduct."

I would ask for the wedding date right away, and tell them , “Sorry! We’ll be on vacation then.” And stay closed that day.

but Mohammedan trucks drivers do not have to haul alcohol.

Funny how that works. /S

Because of their Muzzie religious belief in refusing to deliver booze, they are fired. The Feds step in with a legal action that resulted in being enriched with a settlement.

But a Christian acting on religious belief is penalized!

That one goes without saying, as long as you really ARE on vacation. The goal of the pink swastika is to nail you. I.e. they’ll check. And they can coordinate with your schedule. Thing is, they can respond to a response. It’s harder to respond to no response.

One of the findings of fact in the Judge’s ruling was number 76: “Respondents do not advertise that there is a policy of not allowing same-sex marriages on (Liberty Ridge Farm).” So had the Giffords posted such a policy on their website would the state have gone after them for that? If not, then is this a legal protection for those not wanting to deal with gay marriages?

Safe is not always the right choice, but the only safe answer is to bow down to evil, or at least pretend to do so - agree to host any perverts who demand your compliance. Then if they follow through and actually prepare to hold their pretend wedding on your property, and they are not just trying to score a legal lottery payout, you cancel at the last minute due to unforeseen problems. Make sure the contract specifies no penalty for nonperformance, and apologize profusely that you are unable to host their “beautiful ceremony”.

It’s not very nice to do this, but neither is demanding that innocent Americans violate their fundamental beliefs. It’s okay to be impolite or even dishonest to thugs and robbers, which is what these people are.

If I did not feel like fighting, I would have the septic pumped on the “wedding” day, pay the $50 emergency fee along with the regular price, and not mention how many rolls of TP I had to flush at once to clog the system. Pseudo-wedding cancelled. If I felt like fighting, I would do what the farmers did and accept the lawsuits, dragging them out as long as possible. There are times when it’s worth years of your life to fight pure evil, and government trampling the free exercise of religion, free association, and private property rights may well be one of them.

I only perform macro-aggression. I prefer there is no question that I am exercising my first amendment rights. And to be clear, there is a definite right to offend, but no right to “not be offended”.

In fact, if I’m not offending a lot of these people, I’m doing something wrong.
