That is John Gotti pictured. Not Gambino.

Is there really a John Gambino or are they misidentifying the son of John Gotti? Either way, Lucky Luciano and the boys did a good job “removing” Nazi saboteurs from the New York docks during WWII. The Mafia is a shell of what it once was, but if imams, mullahs, and other long beards start turning up whacked their recruitment might revive considerably. It’s like Nick’s line in Casablanca where he advises Maj. Strasser “Well there are certain sections of New York, Major, that I wouldn’t advise you to try to invade.”

I’d rather have the Italians running the criminal underworld than the Bloods and Crips

The drawback of having any organized criminals in a neighborhood is having protection money extorted, but otherwise, the Italian Mafia (along with the Irish and Jewish mafias) generally leaves those who aren't involved in organized crime alone. In contrast, black and Latino gangs prey on everyone in a neighborhood with assaults, muggings, and rapes.

There is a cute quote from the movie “The Rocketeer” said by the mobster Eddie Valentine, played by Paul Sorvino when he finds out the person who is working for is a Nazi:

“I may be a crook and an outlaw, but ahead of that I’m a red-blooded American”

His mob buddies start a fire fight with the Nazis.

Thanks. His history from Palermo, exile to the US, heroin trade, trials and mistrials, prison, and return to active “service” reads better than any fiction.

The Obama Strategy is so weak that NYC has to depend on the Mafia for protection. Well done Obama!

New Yorkers can relax a little: They’ve got protection. The son of a Gambino crime family member said the Big Apple has an ally in the mafia, who can offer an enhanced layer of protection against ISIS that traditional law enforcement can not, RT is reporting. Giovanni Gambino said his “organization” has a depth of understanding within the New York underground that the police can’t match. “They often act too late, or fail to see a complete picture of what’s happening due to a lack of ‘human intelligence,’” he said in an interview with NBC News, as cited by Reuters, adding that the mafia’s knowledge of individual movements and interaction with locals gives it the upper hand, even compared to the latest surveillance technologies. Gambino, who is trying to carve out a career as a Hollywood screenwriter, says that, following the horrendous terror attacks in Paris on November 13, protection is more important than ever. “The world is dangerous today, but people living in New York neighborhoods with Sicilian connections should feel safe,” he said. “We make sure our friends and families are protected from extremists and terrorists, especially the brutal, psychopathic organization that calls itself the Islamic State.” Gambino Jr, who was brought up in Torretta, a mountainous area overlooking Palermo, the capital of Sicily, says that Islamic State (formerly ISIS/ISIL) fear the Sicilian mafia, and this has been one of the main reasons why they have not tried to set up any underground cells in Sicily. Just in case you think he’s bluffing, the Italian newsmagazine Panorama reports areas of Italy controlled by the Mafia are safer and more secure from ISIS than other areas. NassimNicholasTaleb @nntaleb Predictably, the areas in Europe the most protected against ISIS/Daesh are the ones with strong mafia presence. http://www.panorama.it/news/cronaca/isis-italia-regioni-sicure-mafia/ … On a selfish level, mafia organizations are anxious to keep criminal activity by other groups to a minimum: They don’t need the competition. But any disruption of day-to-day life for areas where they operate would make things difficult for the mafia. The mafia have “lookout bosses,” who have ears on the ground in ways and areas that many law enforcement do not. The Italian island has not suffered from any terrorist attacks and Gambino feels that the mafia can offer protection in New York to help curb the rise of the Islamist terror group and help people see the mob in a new light. “The mafia has a bad reputation, but much of that’s undeserved,” says Gambino, who moved to Brooklyn in 1988. “As with everything in life, there are good, bad and ugly parts – the rise of global terrorism gives the mafia a chance to show its good side.” http://www.thefederalistpapers.org/us/the-mob-vows-to-protect-nyc-residents-from-isis

IF you go back to World War II you will discover that the Mafia worked with the Federal Government to ensure the safety and security of docks in New England, particularly New York. We didn’t have the manpower or detailed knowledge necessary to effectively patrol every dock.

A little over 70 years, two generations, we see a repeat event for the same reasons.

Interesting ain’t it?

Lucky Luciano helped the US with the war in
Sicily and perhaps the invasion of Italy. There is a lot of conflict about how much help he rendered, but the fact remains he was pardoned by his nemesis, Thosmas Dewey. There certainly had to be a strong reason.

That would be heart-warming, indeed. And it the beard is long enough, perhaps a 'Reverse Sicilian necktie' would be in order. ;)
