Molenbeek broke my heart [Belgian Lib Sees the Light]
Politico ^ | November 21, 2015 | TEUN VOETEN

Last Saturday in Paris, at the Boulevard Voltaire near the Bataclan club, I found myself staring at a pool of blood. I wondered what was happening with the world, and refocused my camera on the aftermath of the terror. When it became clear the attacks were planned in Molenbeek, I was not surprised. The real surprise? That Belgium expressed shock at the connection.

I called Molenbeek my home for nine years. In 2005, it was the city’s last affordable neighborhood — in large part because of its bad reputation. My apartment, just across the canal from the city center, is close to the home where two suspects in the Paris attacks were based, and around the corner from where the shooter from the foiled Thalys attack in August had been staying.

I was part of a new wave of young urban professionals, mostly white and college-educated — what the Belgians called bobo, (“bourgeois bohémiens”) — who settled in the area out of pragmatism. We had good intentions. Our contractor’s name was Hassan. He was Moroccan, and we thought that was very cool. We imagined that our kids would one day play happily with his on the street. We hoped for less garbage on the streets, less petty crime. We were confident our block would slowly improve, and that our lofts would increase in value. (We even dared to hope for a hip art gallery or a trendy bar.) We felt like pioneers of the Far West, like we were living in the trenches of the fight for a multicultural society.

Slowly, we woke up to reality...

When you read the article, it is quickly obvious that all the intelligence genes were shot dead or fled to the US during WW2. This is what is left.

The "young college educated professionals looking for a multicultural neighborhood to raise their kids". In the middle of a Muslim ghetto...

Holy Crap on a Cracker! I can't think of any thought process that more richly deserves being exterminated by 7th century barbarity.

“We felt like pioneers of the Far West, like we were living in the trenches of the fight for a multicultural society.”

Our pioneers knew the natives were dangerous and carried firearms to protect themselves.

>>> The debate is paralyzed by a paternalistic discourse in which radical Muslim youths are seen, above all, as victims of social and economic exclusion. They in turn internalize this frame of reference, of course, because it arouses sympathy and frees them from taking responsibility for their actions. <<<

Substitute Black or Hispanic for ‘radical Muslim’ and you have most American cities.

“Just like the guerrilla can hide in the jungle ...”

This lib also needs help in determining who’s the bad guy and who’s the innocent animal ...

Money quote: “But the most important factor is Belgium’s culture of denial. The country’s political debate has been dominated by a complacent progressive elite who firmly believes society can be designed and planned. The country’s political debate has been dominated by a complacent progressive elite who firmly believes society can be designed and planned.”

However, at the conclusion of the article, one comes away with the impression that the author is still a committed liberal who simply thinks his fellow liberals have made an error in their planning. No where does he see Islam for what it is - despite the pools of blood, despite being ripped off by his muslim landlord - instead just thinks there are a few bad guys that have mucked up his once perfect multicultural neighborhood for which he still has hope ...

Islam is more dangerous -- it has been pushing Christianity back since the 7th century when it conquered the Christian lands of Egypt, Syria and then in the 15th and 16th when it conquered Christian Anatolia/Turkey, Balkans etc.

Do not disregard it -- it is far more dangerous than the communists were and has been so for far longer

“The “young college educated professionals looking for a multicultural neighborhood to raise their kids”. In the middle of a Muslim ghetto...”

Reminds me of when a friend of mine stopped a couple who were walking through a violent inner city neighborhood in which they obviously didn't belong. He told them they were putting their lives in danger. They told him “We're sociologists. We don't believe in that”. Same mindset as the people who leave their doors unlocked. Wishing the world were different doesn't make it so.

....in order for liberals to feel good about themselves, they close their eyes to reality and engage in a paternalistic discourse in which radical battle-ready Muslims are seen as eternal victims of social and economic exclusion by right wing racists. The sap-happy liberal frame of reference arouses sympathy and feeds the liberals intellectual emptiness. The opportunistic Muslims are now free to act on their dark impulses, wreaking havoc and mayhem wherever they alight.....

State Dept subordinate Marie Harf underlined this kind of flawed thinking when she said on cable TV that Muslims would behave if we gave them jobs.

Its the old Pay-Me-Im-A Victim act used most profitably by Muslims, border jumpers......and the staggering numbers of castoffs from 143 countries Obama is rubber-stamping into America.....all of them gorging themselves at the public trough.

The "young college educated professionals looking for a multicultural neighborhood to raise their kids". In the middle of a Muslim ghetto.

That reminds of a story I read a few years ago by some white, liberal writer who moved his family to a "multicultural" part of LA in large part because the area had a lot of ethnic restaurants.

I kid you not, this clown moved his family into a high crime area because he like ethnic food and, ta da, "diversity."

After a number of shootings in his neighborhood, he finally moved his family out to safer quarters. But it takes some libs a while to grasp reality. Many never do.

At root, there is a lack of courage brought on by self-loathing.

Read the clues to this Lib’s psychosis. He’s ‘educated’. He knows things. He can’t afford the lifestyle he thinks his education deserves and demands. So he concocts a ‘mind trick’ on himself, thinking his superior intellect can create the living standard in a ‘multicultural’ setting.

It’s a dangerous combination of his poverty mixed with his warped reason. And it is prevalent in the society around him. Hence, he has others to commiserate with. Therefore, the lack of courage, the lack of dignity, the lack of will to stand up to adversity is passed on from generation to generation.

They don’t know how to fight. They don’t have the will to fight. And they wonder why it is they are stepped on. They are confused cowards.

The way forward for them is to beat their intellectual plowshares into muscular swords and have the courage to put their lives at risk regardless of ‘words’ said against them, carrying the primal directive that they are living breathing human beings that have the damn right to live as they choose.

Standing up for one’s life brings about war, civil war and social transformation. They shudder at the thought of that now, but they see their dead on the streets with the innocent blood flowing. They think maybe if they ignore reality, the reality will just go away. This is the failed human condition, fight, flight or stick one’s head in the sand.

But this bourgeois bohemian can have his ideal life without choosing a path of unpredictable civil violence. He can join in strong solidarity with his fellows to pull a Trump and demand that they (Muslims) all have to go.

They have to leave. They all have to go.

Including the ‘nice’ ones. This may smack of a Nazi ‘solution’, but that is merely name-calling because this way out is not such a diabolical scheme. Look up the population exchange of Greece and Turkey, or of India and Pakistan and there can be seen a solution. The problem is there isn’t much in the way of European population on the Muslim side to exchange. That demands a military ultimatum. Either take the creeps or lose Mecca, etc.

“It is nearly impossible to explain to an outsider, but Belgium is a country of six governments, Brussels a city with 19 mayors. These many administrative posts are not filled with competent people. “ “The lack of a strong, central authority ...”

“But the most important factor is Belgium’s culture of denial. The country’s political debate has been dominated by a complacent progressive elite who firmly believes society can be designed and planned. Observers who point to unpleasant truths such as the high incidence of crime among Moroccan youth and violent tendencies in radical Islam are accused of being propagandists of the extreme-right, and are subsequently ignored and ostracized.”

“The former Socialist mayor Philippe Moureax, who governed Molenbeek from 1992 to 2012 as his private fiefdom, perfected this culture of denial and is to a large extent responsible for the current state of affairs in the neighborhood.”

The decades-long uneasy standoff between Dutch-speaking Flemings and French speaking Walloons has made Belgium and, especially Brussels, a mess. Each community insists on being governed in its own way and Brussels, historically a French-speaking city in the midst of a Dutch-speaking countryside, has been a particularly thorny issue in Belgian politics. One compromise has been to divide power down to tiny districts and communities; as this NYT piece notes, 19 municipal zones are divided into six police “zones” cover a city of one million people. The result is that many parts of the capital are hardly policed at all. Meanwhile, despite the famously high social aspirations and exalted rhetoric about integration and opportunity that one hears from Europeans lavishly praising their social model, somehow generation after generation of immigrants stagnates in a toxic atmosphere of exclusion, unemployment, and crime.

Brussels’ failures are emblematic of Europe’s failings. The city that hopes to govern a post-national Europe has been made impotent by the petty jealousies and nasty rivalries of two ethnic groups barely large enough to qualify as tribes in much of the world. Brussels is in some ways a satire of the European project: committed to transnational goals, hobbled by unresolved ethnic spats. A city dedicated to universal secular human values is now threatened by fanatical death cults that have grown up in its miserable, insecure slums.
