Does anyone want to look up the scripture where good leads his people out of Egypt and tells them not to mix with and take part with other cultures. When they do it anyways then he makes them wait another generation to be delivered to the promised land.
It seems that the moral of that is quite clear to me. It is about corrupting yourself. And in the current case it is even about survival.
It was about survival of a nation.
